Melissa's Review:

She Dreams of Fire is book 1 in the Hammer of Witches series. This is the start to a brand new series and is a bit different from M.K. Gibson's others book. There is still humor mixed in but the content is a bit darker than the other books I've read from him. I found the audiobook a great listen and kept wondering what would happen next which is always a good sign while reading.

We start off meeting our leading lady, Agatha “Aggy” Grae when her house is burning and an EMT saves her life by giving her a blood transfusion. We then flash forward some years later to find out Aggy is hunting the coven (witches) that was behind the house fire that forever changed her life. Fate has an interesting twist when Marcus the EMT that saved her in the past winds up getting mixed up in her journey and being exposed to the magical side that most humans do not see. Aggy isn't your typical leading lady, she's a hemophiliac that is a bit addicted to fae blood so she can harness their powers when she needs to. She's going to need all the help she can get when Vanessa, one of the high witches of the Umbra Coven starts coming after them. Throw in a talking bunny, plenty of action/fighting scenes and you have yourself a must read.

She Dreams of Fire is a strong start to a new series that you're going to want to get your hands on. I wound up really enjoying Aggy's character. She's not all powerful, and definitely has her flaws, but you can't help but cheer her on. As I mentioned above, this is a bit darker than the books I've read from Gibson in the past, but still quite enjoyable. There's quite a few mythological beings I normally don't see in books mixed into this series, I'll be interested in seeing what pops up in the next installment. If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy with lots of action, you're going to want to pick this book up.

The Narrator:

Xe Sands is one of my favorite narrators so I was happy to see her name when I saw this audiobook. She did a lovely job as always and was a really good fit for Aggy's character.
