Melissa's Review:

Honor Among Thieves is book 1 in The Honors series. I've been wanting to give this a go since it was released early 2018 and was happy to see the audiobook in my library! This was quite different from what I expected since yall know I don't read blurbs most of the time. It worked well for me though and I'll need to grab the next book when that comes out.

Our leading lady, Zara Cole is a petty criminal. She's living in New Detroit and has no qualms about stealing a rich girl's purse at the beginning of the book. We quickly find out the rich girl's father is not someone you want to mess with and sends goons after Zara. She's on the run when the unthinkable happens, she's chosen in the lottery to be one of the Honors. Once selected they go through a bit of training but aren't quite ready for what they'll be doing. They board a Leviathan ship, an alien ship that is alive, and explore and do whatever is on their daily tasks. Zara has no clue why she was chosen but after being on board, she's feeling like she belongs for the first time in her life. Nadim, the ship, and Zara have a special bond and I was really intrigued to see how all this would work out. There's backstabbing, attacks, and lots of Zara having to think on her toes while reading/listening to the book. I had a hard time putting it down which is always a positive for me while reading.

I really wasn't sure what to think about Honor Among Thieves before starting and was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing read. It's not quite like anything else I've read before, there were a few elements that are reflected in some of the other popular YA genre books but for the most part this was really unique. Zara was quite a bristly but she grew on me quickly and I'm left with wanting to know what will happen next. If you're a fan of sci fi YA books you'll love this book!
