Melissa's Review:

Trail of Lightning is book 1 in The Sixth World series. I kept seeing buzz about this book when it was released in late June and I'm glad my library had it in stock. This wound up being a great start to a series and I will be grabbing the next book as soon as it is released.

Our leading lady, Maggie Hoskie is approached by a family looking for a someone to slay a monster. The monster took their daughter and they'd do anything to get her back. Maggie takes the job and we wind up finding out a bit about her clan powers that helps her be a proficient monster hunter. She moves fast and is skilled in killing. The monster is one she's never seen before and after the job she takes it to a medicine man that she's grown to think of as a family member. He hasn't seen anything like this before and knows it's going to be dangerous to find out more details so he pushes that she take his grandson Kai with her on her journey and so the adventure beings. Along the way we figure out that someone is creating the monsters and Maggie has to find out who and stopping them before more innocent people die.

Trail of Lightning was even better than I expected it would be. This world is something that's been lacking in the Urban Fantasy genre for awhile now. We have a diverse read that focuses on Native American people, with magic and mythology added in. Coyote and a few others make several appearances and as always he stirs up trouble. Also, the story has a post apocalyptic feel since the world flooded and the people that were left wound up getting clan powers and the God's came back. I'm really happy about getting a diverse Urban Fantasy and can't wait to see what book 2 brings. If you're a fan of post apocalyptic reads with paranormal mixed in you're going to love this book.
