Melissa's Review:

Sky in the Deep is a standalone novel that I wasn't really sure what to expect going into this book. I just knew I had to try this book because the cover lover in me was loving this gorgeous cover. I got really intrigued by the fact that the story revolves around Vikings and after binge watching some Viking show with my hubby late last year, I'm wanting more Viking stories in my life. I'm so glad I tried this audiobook, it was a really great listen and I'm hoping to see more awesome YA Fantasy novels in the future from AYoung.

We start out meeting our leading lady Eelyn while she's on the battle field with her fellow Aska trying to win against their rival clan, the Riki. During the battle Eelyn winds up seeing her brother which shakes her to the core, you see her brother died 5 years ago. Not sure what is going on Eelyn winds up getting injured and captured and quickly taken back with the Riki. This is where she has to rely on her brother and his friend while wanting nothing other than to return home to her people. These clans were not afraid to get a bit gruesome and I was just hoping Eelyn would make it out of there in one piece. I should have known the story wouldn't be that easy though, the Riki wind up getting raided and now Eelyn has a mission to unite the two clans that have been battling for generations to fight the new threat.

Sky in the Deep will leave you wowed. I am extremely impressed with the writing on this novel, especially for this being a debut author. The content was dark and gritty and suited the Viking characters really well. The plot kept me on my toes, which is always appreciated and I just really enjoyed Eelyn's character. I'm hoping we get another book in this world, maybe someone in a different clan and their story next. All in all, this is an outstanding novel you need to try if you enjoy Young Adult/New Adult Fantasy.

The Narrator:

This was my first novel narrated by Khristine Hvam and I'm so glad I selected this format! She did a really great job conveying the emotions Eelyn was experiencing and she made the listen fun. I thought her voice suited the book well, and don't have any complaints.
