Melissa's Review:

The Elite is book 2 in The Selection series. I'm plowing through these since they're a pretty quick listen via audiobook. I'm lucky enough that my library had these available too which I'm thankful for since I don't typically read New Adult novels since they're hit or miss for me. This series actually works pretty well for me though so if you're looking to try one I think you'd enjoy these.

We return pretty much where we left off in book one. America Singer is part of the Selection, where 35 girls go to the palace and they're knocked out of the running to become the next princess one by one. It's pretty similar to The Bachelor but with much less drama than that guilty pleasure show. America's still trying to figure out if she wants to actually be there and possible win Prince Maxon's heart or if she still wants her first love Aspen. We learn more about the rebels that are constantly attacking the palace and it's leading up to something big. With the girls being cut we're only down to a few and I hope America makes up her mind before her time is out. This book does have a love triangle feeling but it's done in a way that didn't actually bother me, kind of? I'm conflicted about it but they know if they're caught they'll face serious consequences and I think that's why I wasn't too concerned about it.

The Elite has me wanting the next book ASAP. I want to see how America's story ends and I know it's going to go out with a bang. It looks like books 4 & 5 are focusing on another character but I'm not going to say who since it's a major spoiler. All in all this felt like a guilty pleasure read but one I enjoyed. Fingers crossed the next book is amazing. If you're looking for an interesting New Adult Dystopian series you might enjoy this one!
