Melissa's Review:

Moon Called is book one in the Mercy Thompson series. I've actually read several books in this series before, but since it's been so long I thought I'd start back at the beginning. Mercedes Thompson (aka Mercy) is a walker that shifts into a coyote and runs a mechanic shop in the Washington state area. At the very start of Moon Called, a werewolf runaway comes sniffing around for a job at Mercy's shop. She accepts his help but has no clue that it would lead to something bigger happening down the line. Mercy has to work with the local werewolf pack to resolve issues that arise and figure out how to save a few key members in the werewolf pack before it's too late. There is tons of action and Mercy even goes back to her roots, which was a nice touch in seeing who Mercy really is.

Though a walker that turns into a coyote is pretty unique, there are more common paranormal beings added in as well. Mercy's neighbor, Adam, is the local werewolf alpha and he keeps a close eye on her. She's also somewhat often fixing up a vampire's bus that is painted to look like Scobby Doo's mystery machine. And her old boss that taught her everything she knows about repairing cars also taught her about the fae. It's a well-rounded bunch in Mercy's world.

I forgot how much I enjoyed this series back in the day. I'm not sure why I quit reading the books after 3 or 4 books in, more than likely I forgot about a new release and just got behind. I love Mercy's character, she's not a shy one, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. I'll be interested to see what happens in the rest of the series. If you haven't read these books yet, I'd suggest it if you're a fan of shifters or urban fantasy.

  1. I love the series and the more we progress in the series the better it is

  2. I so love this series. I'm glad you're starting it again and audio. I love Lorelei King's narration for it. I think she brings out the perfect voice for Mercy. Are you going to mix in the Alpha & Omega books too? They kinda mix in the same timeline.

    1. Loving the audio! I think I read one or two of that series and forgot about it too *sigh* need to get them as well!!

  3. Oh man. I remember when I first read this series. I devoured it in a day and then went to the library to get the rest of them and just read them back to back. However, like you said, once I had to wait for a new release... I forgot about it and lost touch with the series. I should really reread them like you're doing. It sounds like you enjoyed it the second time around :)
