Drea's Review:

As soon as the braces and pounds came off, pudgy, bucktoothed, and awkward Brynn Dalton vowed she’d do everything she could to never slide back into the Dumpy Dalton territory of her pre-high school days. She has lists and life plans to ensure a perfect her. But a fling with her enemy Will has knocked her off balance, especially when he moves clear across the country afterward without a word. Turning thirty-one and discovering the little jewelry box her boyfriend handed her held earrings and not the ring she’d expected is another hit to that balance. So many life goals have yet to be reached. When her enemy turns up at the party—three years after their fling—she shouldn’t be relieved. Not when he fits nowhere in any of her precious life plans. But Brynn’s precious plans are about to be rearranged as surely as her teeth were because Will has plans of his own, and they include making sure Brynn destroys every precious list she’s ever made.

This is a quick, escapist read that had me wiping away tears in the last three chapters. Will is a great hero, one I was definitely rooting for all through the book. The way he has handled his interest in Brynn over the years, and even in this book in spots, leaves a bit to be desired. But without that there’d be no conflict. Stuffy Brynn goes through quite a bit of development from start to end, which makes for a satisfying read. But of course the happily ever after makes it truly gratifying.

I often mention how I enjoy verbal fireworks between the heroine and hero. We get a good amount of that in this book, though in parts it’s painful rather than fun (because at least one party doesn’t really mean any of it).

Brynn and Will, and their fling, appear in Lauren Layne’s Only With You, the first book in The Best Mistake series. Much of that fling is repeated in this book as flashbacks. For a truly satisfying experience a reader new to this author might want to start with the first book rather than this one.

If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, this book is a sexy, fun alternative.

  1. It's always nice to have a book like that from time to time. I haven't tried the author but I hope I'll have the occasion.

  2. I haven't tried any of this author's novels, but your "If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, this book is a sexy, fun alternative." got me curious, Drea!

    1. Yay for curious! :D
I might even actually read this one again at some point *gasp*

  3. When I saw the title I thought it was Made for You by Melissa Marr (I listened and liked it), but I see this is a different one. I haven't heard of this one before, I like the sound of it, specially the verbal banter between the character..I enjoy that too :) I can see is emotional too.
    Thanks Drea!

  4. Oh yes. I enjoyed these two but yeah they had me cringing in spots. I loved the tattoo bit. Gah!
