Drea's Review:

Indy may be a Rock Chick, but she's never been shot at. Until she gets caught up in her barista's trouble, that is. Now the only person who can help her is the one she's been avoiding for a decade: her best friend's tall, dark, and dangerous brother Lee. Indy has vowed she's over him, especially since she spent most of her teen years throwing herself at him without effect. So when he's decided he wants her, and claims to have always wanted her, she's not ready to accept.

I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about Kristen Ashley and decided to start at the beginning with Rock Chick #1. This story features a whopper of an Alpha male: Lee, a successful former military man running a lucrative security business...that just happens to deal with shady people, too. I definitely enjoyed him. Indy owns a quirky bookshop which made me instantly like her. And her dialogue/inner monologue is amusing most of the time. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. Sounds great, right?

Well, I did have trouble with Indy for probably the second third of the book. Her absolute refusal to stay put and out of danger, all the damn time, was frustrating. I understood her need for independence at the beginning, and even during the second third, but there comes a time when it's clear you need to let the damn professionals handle a situation even if you're a cop's daughter. It took her far too long to get to that point (and I'm not sure she ever did).

Then there's the number of times Indy and Lee nearly had sex but something interrupted them. THAT got super frustrating.

All right, so there was frustrating parts ;)

But, the author's voice, the speed at which the story flies, and, well, sexy Lee, kept my attention through the whole story.

However, I think if it had been about 1/3 shorter, it would have gotten a full five stars from me...or at least 4.5. As is, it dragged on too long and gave far too many opportunities for Indy to land in harm's way...or fail to score with the hot Alpha dude.

Grab this if you like mouthy rock chicks who get their childhood crush!

  1. Fab review and I do like mouthy girls much to my mountain man's frustration because I tend to use said mouthiness on him too LOL

    1. They are so fun if they're written well, and this one was :)

  2. OH she's one I just haven't been able to start yet and I don't know why! lol So many of my friends love her and I own this one and like 8 others of hers ::snort:: Glad you enjoyed it. I'll probably follow suit and try to read this one sometime soon.

    1. I was/am the same way. I have a couple of her paperbacks I haven't gotten to. Oh for the super power to be able to consume a book by touching it to the forehead...

  3. I'm all for mouthy chicks, lols. I have to other series..can't remember the dang on name of it. Anyways rocking review Drea ;)

  4. I listened to a sample of the audiobook last night around 3 am..LOL and I almost got it, but I though, let me reads some reviews first, and here you are. I liked the voice of the author and narrator, so I might have to get it after all, even though the things that bothered you will probably bother me too.
    Thanks Drea

    1. Who knows, maybe the warnings will make it easier to tolerate ;)
      I hope it's awesome!
