Review: The Impetuous Amazon

Title: The Impetuous Amazon

The Impetuous Amazon is book two in the Alliance of the Amazons series. Each book in the series focuses on one of the four Amazons and their love interest. This installment features Megan Feurer, the Fire Amazon as the main character. Just as you would think of fire, Megan is outgoing, not afraid to speak her mind and a little bit of a prankster. Do not let that fool you though, there is a softer side to her just like everyone else. Not having an easy childhood, Megan is tough and very independent. With the exception of Megan's connection with the other three Amazons and her Sentinels, she doesn't trust others easily.

In book one, Megan liked to trick/prank Johann Herrmann (Joemann), one of her Sentinels. I could tell he was a crush and I really hoped he would be the one she wound up with. Johann is pretty much the direct opposite of Megan. He likes being on time, everything in perfect order, and so forth. I knew the two would butt heads as they were thrown together and the relationship grew. I wasn't disappointed, to say the least. The character building is amazing in SJames books, you get to know a bit of each character in each book, but learn a lot on whoever the main is. I love the fact that the Amazons, while powerful, have their flaws. They aren't picture perfect, and each has their own strengths. As in book one, the events throughout the book lead up to a battle. This one was pretty large, and had me wondering how the heck the Amazons would manage to succeed. SJames books are unique and just the right mix of Urban Fantasy and romance. If you haven't read this series yet, I highly suggest it.

Disclosure: I received an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

WoW [80] - Full Throttle

Full Throttle - Erin McCarthy
Release Date: December 3rd, 2013

Easing into the turns…

As one of only two girls on the tween racing circuit, Shawn Hamby has always run with a fast crowd. But now at thirty-two, she doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. And she definitely doesn’t need a man bossing her around off of the track…

Putting the pedal to the metal…

But after a silly girls’ night at a fetish club, Shawn can’t get Rhett Ford out of her mind. He’s younger than her, and he’s her best friend’s brother-in-law, which should be red flags. Rhett is looking for someone to lead in bed, but he can’t imagine that Shawn would ever submit to him. Boldly surrendering is more her style. And with Rhett behind the wheel, it’s going to be one wild ride…

Why I am waiting:
I haven't read any books that had characters in a racing circuit, so this should be a nice change of pace. It looks interest and might contain a bit of kink ;)

What book are you waiting for this week?

Review: Lady in Red

Reviewer: Drea
Title: Lady in Red
Author: Máire Claremont
Series: Mad Passions, #2
Format: e-book

Release Date: Oct 1, 2013
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Length: Novel (300 pages)
Genre: Historical Romance
Preorder: AmazonBarnes & Noble
Rating: 3-stars

Drea's Review:

A Duke's daughter should be living in the lap of luxury, not running for her life, and her sanity. But she'll get no help from her wealthy father. No, he's the one who put her in an asylum. Mary goes to the only person who can help--her dead mother's best friend. But Mary can't stay with the infamous madam without endangering them both. In steps Edward, a tormented Duke and perhaps the only person who can stand against Mary's father and help her get her life back. Edward has problems of his own that may tear about the fragile relationship these two form.

Historical romance is my bag, baby. Yeah! So when I saw this amazing cover (yeah, I admit it, I'm a cover whore), I had to have it. I quickly discovered this wasn't going to be a 5* book for me. Far too much angst in this…from both characters. I just can't get into books where the heroine is struggling with intimacy after being raped (I stay away from all books where a heroine has been raped). I should have known this was a possibility from the description, too. So that's my bad.

That said, the writing was good. The angst didn't drown out the romance. For the most part the characters didn't annoy me. If there hadn't been some strangeness with the hero's not-best-friend, I probably would have rated this higher. I give this 3*.

Giveaway + Guest Post: The Reluctant Rancher

The lovely authors dropped by to tell us why they love cowboys. Enjoy, and don't forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post!

Cowboy. The quintessential ideal of the American hero. The very word calls to mind images of solitary men on horseback, outlined against the wide blue sky, their rugged, yet handsome features, weathered by hours in the sun.
What red-blooded woman with a pulse hasn’t dreamed of lassoing her own cowboy? Of being the one to tame the wild restlessness that plagues the lonely figure whose very spirit embodies everything that a woman wants—sensitivity, strength, truth. Those are things we think about every time we begin discussing ideas for another book. We want our heroes to be confident, caring, honest, strong—and maybe just a little emotionally damaged, while our heroines are women who like themselves yet think that what people see on the outside makes them less than perfect. When our characters come together, it may take a while, but they will begin to bring out—and to see—the best in each other.
No romance is perfect—everyone has bumps along the way. That’s what makes the journey interesting. We grew up reading romance novels and for both of us, the cowboy ones were always our favorite. We especially love the early works of Diana Palmer and the way she brought her characters to life. We always felt as though we were right there in the story—we could be the heroine! And that’s what we hope our readers feel when they read our books. We want to provide a complete story that, at the turning of that last page, makes you go “aahhh!”

The Reluctant Rancher
Luke Tanner was a hard man with a painful past. It seemed as if every single citizen of Fiddler Creek wanted something from the wealthy rancher. He’d learned early on not many cared to see past his looks and sour attitude and discover the man beneath.

So when the generously curved Mary Carter hit him up for a loan to save her fledgling business, he made her a short-term proposition she couldn’t refuse. Only the more time the reluctant rancher spends with the lovely Mary, the more he starts to think about a long-term relationship.

Mary Carter had fantasized about Luke Tanner since her first glimpse of the veritable mountain of a man with a perpetual scowl. She’d never been brave enough to approach him until circumstances forces her to seek his help.

The Reluctant Rancher is the story of two individuals who have never experienced the soul stirring passion of true love – until they find each other.

“Who the hell are you and what are you doing on my land?”

The shock of the deep male voice held Mary immobile for several seconds.

She turned slowly, facing the man she had come to see. But if the sound of his voice had shocked her, the sight of the man stunned her. Mary had seen Luke Tanner on several occasions but she had never been this up close and personal. A mountain of a man, she had to look up to see his face. A long way up. With genuine feminine appreciation she realized that Luke Tanner would stand at least six-foot-four in his stocking feet. His shoulders were broad and sturdy, their huge mass emphasized by the flannel-lined denim work jacket he wore. His large size made her, Mary Carter, feel small and dainty.

A patch of dark, curling hair peeked out from the neckline of his blue plaid western shirt and her stomach quivered at the tantalizing glimpse of his permanently sun-darkened chest. Her gaze fell, drinking in the sight of his strong, muscular legs. Whitewashed jeans clung lovingly to every male sinew. Even though his waist could never be called slim, it was in perfect proportion to his size. To Mary, he was a fine looking man.

With great reluctance, she tore her gaze away, taking in the rest of his sun-bronzed features – his frowning forehead, his beard-roughened jaw, and his crooked nose. Immediately his eyes captured her attention. My goodness, she had never seen such incredible eyes. Green as the mountain grass after the first spring rain and surrounded by lashes a woman would die for.

Mary shivered, more in reaction to this potently virile male than from the cold seeping beneath her coat.

Audio Review + Giveaway: Troll Or Derby

Title: Troll Or Derby
Author: Red Tash
Format: Audiobook
Source: Author
Buy: Audible, Amazon, B&N
Connect: Facebook, Twitter, Website
 photo 5star.png
I'll be honest, I've never gotten through an audiobook before Troll Or Derby. I've always had issues focusing on the story or being able to tell who the heck was talking. I also have the bad habit of giggling like a little kid whenever the reader gets to a cuss word. Troll Or Derby managed to keep my attention, and I could easily distinguish which character was speaking. The characters came to life as I was listening, which sounds corny but it's true. I could easily picture Deb running/rolling around town in attempts to protect her sister. I've read the ebook in the past, but I honestly think the audiobook version is my favorite. And trust me, I don't say that lightly.

Below is my review for the ebook that I wrote near the beginning of this year. Though I did edit a few lines of it to suit the audiobook version and to fix grammar errors. It's the same story, I just wanted to clarify that my review still stands on the awesomeness that is Troll Or Derby.

Deb (aka Roller Deb) is an outcast that looks after her drug addict sister, Gennifer. The book starts with Deb saving her sister from a burning trailer and quickly escalates to other crazy events that kept me on my toes. When Gennifer goes missing, Deb goes to rescue her from the drug dealer boyfriend Dave. In Deb's adventure to save Gennifer, she meets Harlow, a hunky troll that I couldn't get enough of.

Harlow is drawn to Deb from the first second he sees her her. When he finally catches up to Roller Deb he helps her find her way through the paranormal aspects of the world she never knew existed. I absolutely loved Harlow's character; he's the sexy, quiet guy that isn't afraid to get his hands dirty to save his woman. So pretty much he's the guy that every woman wants in their life.

I was so happy while reading because Red Tash mixed it up and had alternating points of view each chapter between Deb and Harlow. This allowed me to get a more well rounded view of the main characters and how both of them think versus how they act. Troll or Derby is one of the most unique books I've ever read. It effortlessly blends roller derby, romance, finding oneself, rescue and more in a tidy package. I found myself listening for a bit and saying "just one more chapter" so I could see what would happen next (even though I already knew). If you enjoy paranormal books, Troll or Derby is a must buy.

Red Tash is super generous and is giving away (1) Audiobook copy of Troll Or Derby. Enter via the form below. If you elect to do the extra entries please leave the links/username/name you follow as either as a comment or in the form.

Giveaway will end on 12/06/13 at 11:59PM CST. I will contact the winner via email on 12/07/13, they will have 48 hours to confirm, then I will send the winner's contact information to the author. Good luck!

Giveaway + Spotlight: Come Full Circle

Title: Come Full Circle
Author: Natalie-Nicole Bates
Buy Links: Amazon, Amazon UK, B&N

Fifteen years ago, Bethany Minor fled her hometown after being left at the alter by Dane Brennan. After the sudden death of her mother, she is forced to return home and face her past.

The years have been hell for Dane, and seeing Bethany again only reopens wounds he long thought closed.

When they realize the flames of their past love never died, Bethany and Dane will need to confess all before they can have a chance to reclaim their life that once should have been.

But when the truth of the past is finally revealed, will they still stand as a couple?

Dane felt strangely nervous about meeting Bethany. What could she possibly have that belonged to him? When he’d seen her earlier, at first she’d barely acknowledged  his presence.

But when she hugged him so hard it almost took his breath away, all of the old feelings came welling back up inside him, along with the regret of losing her, and the promise of everything a life with her would have brought.

The feelings of loss and sadness became so acute, that he could actually feel a pain in his chest. He’d made so many mistakes, and the gravity of those mistakes was still apparent.

Finally, he caught sight of her walking slowly up the street toward him. She was dressed only in a  loose-fitting old  sweatshirt and jeans, totally inappropriate for the cold, rainy weather. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to take her in his arms, and beg her for a second chance. That, he would not do. He still had some semblance of pride and reality.

“Bethany, why did you walk here in the rain? I would have been happy to come to you,” he said, and dared to push a few errant strands of her dark hair away from her face.

“I need fresh air. Being in my mother’s house with all of her things…it was closing in on me.”

“I’m sorry. Would you like to get out of the rain? We could go somewhere and get a cup of coffee, and talk,” he  suggested hopefully.

“I’m not really to being around a lot of people, Dane. The funeral will be hard enough.”

“Would you like to come home with me for a while? At least you won’t be alone.” He made the offer, but from the look on her face, he already guessed her answer.

“No. Thank you for offering, though.”

Her refusal made it sound as though she’d said no to a business associate, not someone she’d once loved.

After a few minutes of silence, she spoke again.

“So anyway, here is what I came to give you.” She produced a small, familiar-looking box, from the front packet of her jeans.

He licked his lips. “I hope that’s not what I think it is.”

She lifted the lid, and as he feared, it was the engagement ring he’d given her, when he thought of her as his princess. The round diamond twinkled proudly under the harshness of the street lights.

“I don’t want it back,” he stated firmly. He didn’t ever want to see it again. The ring was a harsh reminder of what might have been.

“Well, I don’t want it either, Dane. It belongs to you. I thought my mother returned it to you after…after we broke up. It was wrong for her to keep it.”

She was trying to push the box into his hand, but he refused to open his hand and stepped back from her.
“Throw it into the garbage, Bethany.” He pointed to the public trash receptacle.

“I can’t throw it away; it’s too expensive!” she exclaimed.

“Then give it away, donate it, sell it! I don’t care!”

When she shrank back, he realized his tone was  harsher than he’d intended. Immediately, he stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he repeated over and over again.

He wasn’t sure exactly, how it happened, but his lips found their way to hers. He closed his eyes and basked in her familiarity, her taste, and his tongue gently parted her lips. As their kiss deepened, he became keenly aware of the contrast of the intense heat coming from her skin, and the icy coldness of her hand on his neck. In that one moment, he was ready to beg Bethany to escape with him forever.

     “Hey, Mr. Brennan.”

The voice jolted him back to reality. A teenage boy  held the hand of a teenage girl as they passed by. They  looked vaguely familiar; most likely they were from the neighborhood.

     “Hey,” he answered back.

“Hear that? If I’m Mr. Brennan, what does that make my father?” he whispered into Bethany’s ear.

Without a word, she tilted her head back and connected her beautiful espresso brown eyes―the eyes he’d fallen in love with―to his, and held him captive.

There was so much he wanted to say to her, but the words wouldn’t come. He touched a hand to her cheek, and found that her skin burned beneath his fingertips.

     He then spoke the obvious.

“Bethany, you’re burning up with fever. You can’t be alone tonight. Come home, and let me take care of you,” he implored.

She blinked a few times, and he held a tiny hope she would agree to leave with him, but she reached up and ran her fingers through his beard, and said, “You know I can’t do that.”

“Well, at least, let’s go to the apartment upstairs at BFC. I lived there for a few years. It’s really nice.”
Her eyes grew huge. “I never want to go to that apartment again!”

Then she darted away from him, and hurried off in   the opposite direction.

For a moment, he simply watched her leave, perplexed at her final words. Why was she so upset at the mention of the apartment? It wasn’t as though she ever stayed there. It was mostly for interns from the mortuary college, who were on-call during the night.

He slowly crossed the street and walked to his car. Reaching his hand into the pocket of his jacket to get his keys, he  found the box with the engagement ring. A caustic laugh escaped his throat. While he was lost in their kiss, she’d found a way to return the ring.

Stephanie Rowe's PRINCE CHARMING CAN WAIT Blog Tour

No Knight Needed
Ever After, #1

Broad shoulders silhouetted in the night. Strong arms anchoring her against a powerful chest. A modern-day knight in shining armor on a stormy mountainside… Who has time for that kind of fantasy? Not Clare Gray, that's for sure. The plucky single mom is a little too busy to dream about turbulent dark eyes brimming with intensity, and sensual kisses that ignite her soul. But when Boston business mogul Griffin Friese steps out of his black truck on the abandoned mountain road and helps Clare rescue her daughter from a deadly Maine storm, her well-ordered world implodes.

Suddenly, Clare finds herself having fantasies about tender loving and hot passion with the mysterious stranger with the rain-slicked jacket and the angel painted on the roof of his truck. The midnight encounter awakens yearnings in Clare that are far too dangerous to explore, but when she learns that her heroic knight is staying in town for a few days, he becomes a reality she can't deny. She's already barely surviving, so how can she risk her heart with a man who threatens everything she believes in?

Fairytale Not Required
Ever After, #2

Kisses that set her on fire.  A tender smile that melts her heart. Promises of forever…. It's the fairytale that no woman can afford to believe in, especially not Astrid Munroe. Oh, she did once, long ago, but the scars etched on her heart remind her that the only one she can trust is herself. The flamboyant designer with the quick wit and spunky demeanor will never show the world how much she is struggling…until she meets Jason Sarantos, a man whose tormented past enables him to see the secrets she is trying to hide.

The connection between the two damaged souls is instant and electrifying, shredding the defenses Astrid had worked so carefully to erect, and tumbling her into a world of passion and vulnerability she can't control. Jason has moved to Maine to rebuild his life after the tragic death of his wife and youngest son, and Astrid's vibrant spirit ignites a searing fire in the single dad that he thought was long dead. Intense, soul-shattering passion explodes between the pair, threatening everything that they hold most dear.  Is there a way to stop the fire before it consumes them, or are they fated to a future more beautiful and more heart-wrenching than either thought was possible?

She would never.
Still shadowed by a trauma she cannot forget, Emma Watson is damaged in ways she will never reveal, not to anyone…except the dangerous, intense man who has haunted her dreams for the last two years, a man she has barely spoken to, a man who has come back into her life for forty-eight hours.

The best intentions…
A full moon. A dark sky. A whispered confession. A secret pact between two almost strangers who will part ways in the morning, never to speak again. But when these two combustuous, passionate souls finally come together…nothing will ever be the same again. Is there any way to recover from what they have done, or are they doomed to the very fate they were trying so desperately to escape?

Long Live the Queen - Kate Locke
Release Date: November 12th 2013

Xandra Vardan thought life would be simpler when she accepted the goblin crown and became their queen, but life has only become more complicated. Everyone -- vampires, werewolves and humans -- wants the goblins on their side, because whoever has the goblins -- wins.

Queen Victoria wants her head, Alpha wolf Vex wants her heart, and she still doesn't know the identity of the person who wanted her blood. What she does know is that a project from one of the 'secret' aristocrat labs has gotten free and she's the only one who can stop the perfect killing machine -- a sixteen year-old girl. With human zealots intent on ridding the world of anyone with plagued blood and supernatural politics taking Britain to the verge of civil war, Xandra's finding out that being queen isn't all it's cracked up to be, and if she doesn't do something fast, hers will be the shortest reign in history.

Why I am waiting:

Just a heads up to everyone. This month is going to be a tad bit crazy. I'm participating in NaNoWriMo, I think it will help me with my creative writing skills and help me in the long run with writing in general. Oh and I'll be on vacation later this week! So if the blog posts are a tad late or the occasional one is missing ;) please forgive me. Drea is awesome and will be helping me out, but I don't want to get both of us super stressed.

I appreciate each and every one of you. In thanks, I will be hosting a giveaway later this month when things settle down.
