Melissa's Review:

Dirty Money is book 1 in the Roughneck Billionaires series. I was super excited to get this one from the library because it's set in Texas, it's about a billionaire and it just sounded good. It sadly didn't live up to my high expectations but don't get me wrong, it was a decent novel.

Boone Price struck it rich when he bought property and struck oil. Being a billionaire hasn't changed him that much though the serious lack of respect is starting to grate his nerves. Boone does the only thing he can think of, go to a realtor to buy the biggest house he can find. Enter, Ivy Smithfield, the super elegant woman on her business's flier that Boone happened to find. Thing is, she's just faking being elegant to try to get higher clientele but Boone isn't aware of that and as you can imagine he's setting his sights on hooking her as a trophy wife. With some serious back and forth and avoidance they start a relationship of sorts but the baggage from both of them leaves them with major issues and secrets.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book, I find I enjoy this author's paranormal romance books under a different name more but that's just my personal taste. That being said, the audiobook version might have further struck how I felt because I didn't care for the thick hick accent that Boone portrayed.

  1. I still have to try any of her books, but I get the feeling I should start from one of her paranormal romances . . . Too bad this didn't live up to your high expectations :(

    1. I enjoyed her PNR ones :) I think the better format on this would be ebook so you don't constantly hear the thick accent

  2. Ebooks would be definitely better, the accents can be whatever, you want them to be. What name does she right for paranormal. I haven't read the first book, but I did like the second book.

  8. Thanks for the warning. I have seen this one around. Although, I read, I don't do audiobooks, so that might make a difference. (It's a listening thing for me. I have trouble focusing on a story when I have to listen to it. I need the words in front of me.)

  10. I haven't tried this author under either name. I have wanted to try Jessica Sims in the past. Sorry this one didn't work for you.

  11. Dang. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy this one as much as you thought you would. I did cringe when you talked about the thick hick accent. I probably would have thrown in the towel with that alone.

  12. Aw that sucks. I really enjoyed these. But I did them in ebook. I don't think I would like it in audio at all. I don't recall feeling the accents were too heavily done in book format at least.
