Melissa's Review:

The Duke is book 3 in the Devil's Duke series. I'm not sure what the heck is going on with me, this is my second DNF this month, and hopefully the last. I was really excited to get into this one, but hit a few issues along the way. The main one being I never really liked the characters. I tried to stick it out but at 50% I couldn't take it anymore. The leading lady, Amarantha Vale irritated me, she's engaged to a man but has a strong attraction to Gabriel Hume a naval officer. Gabriel winds up leaving but asks her not to marry her fiance, to wait for him and they'll be together. It was a bit predictable since I could tell what would happen next to cause conflict and her choices never really endeared me to her. I might give this a go at a late date, but until then it's going back on the shelf.

  1. Oh no, too bad! But I guess it's better to put it aside if you're really not feeling the book. Gives you time to pick something up that you'll (hopefully) really enjoy. :)

  3. Just from that I can tell you what's probably going to happen for the rest of the book. Too bad. Predictable is not generally a good thing.

  4. Too bad this hasn't worked out for you. Perhaps, though, it might just be one of those times you're having a 'moment' and you just need to find the right genre. :)

  6. This book was just UGH for me. I read it through and I just couldn't stand Amarantha, from start to finish. I've read many of Ashe's books and enjoyed most of them, but this one surprised me. Amarantha is probably one of my least favorite HR heroines and I really want to bleach my brain from this book. I guess I'll try again, with The Prince, but... this book was so bad (in terms of Amarantha). I highly recommend not picking it up to finish! There are so many better HR novels out there (like the Maiden Lane series!). :D

Great review, Melissa! Have a wonderful weekend. =)

  7. Great review and I felt the same way. I just couldn't do this book and the characters are what did it for me, especially the heroine. And for the first time with this author I couldn't like it.
