Melissa's Review:

A Scot in the Dark is book two in the Scandal & Scoundrel series. I enjoyed book one in this series and grabbed this one from the library without really reading the blurb. This novel revolves around Lillian Hargrove, a lady that ruined her reputation and a Duke that is forced to take her as his ward.

Lillian Hargrove aka Lily made a gigantic mistake in trusting and falling in love with a talented painter. She finds out that the painting that will be exhibited is the nude she posed for. After confronting the painter she figures out he never cared for her so she makes a scene and her fate is sealed, her reputation is ruined. Enter Alec, the Duke of Warnick, a Scottish "brute" that comes to England to take care of his ward (Lily). After hearing about her scandal, Alec decides to help remedy the situation by getting her married before the painting is shown. The clock is ticking down and with each day the duo butt heads and grow more attached to one another.

The characters in A Scot in the Dark really shone while I was reading. Lily's character, in particular, had my heart breaking while I was rooting for her. She's never had an easy life, and her bad decision made her an outcast in society. I was glad when Alec came around and tried to have her best interests in mind. Their constant arguing leads to amusing scenes and kept my interest in seeing who would best who. All in all, if you're a fan of Historical Romance and haven't tried this series you should pick it up!
