Melissa's Review:

Souljacker is book one in the Lily Bound series. I've enjoyed so many of Yasmine Galenorn's books in the past so I knew I had to grab this audiobook when I saw it. It's the start to a new series and in a paranormal version of Seattle that I couldn't wait to explore.

This novel revolves around Lily Chase, a succubus that runs a sex salon in Seattle. I was so excited when I heard the leading lady is a succubus, that's one paranormal being we rarely see in this genre. I had a few hesitations since a succubus could easily go into the erotica territory, but I thought it was done tastefully. We don't really get to see her doing her job since we start off the novel with one of her customers being killed by a vampire in her salon. That opens up a huge can of worms and Lily winds up hiring a PI named Archer Desmond to help out who is behind the kill. The trail quickly leads back to a man coined the Souljacker, and the hunt is on.

Souljacker was an entertaining read though felt a bit off to me. I never really connected with Lily's character and she kept putting herself in dangerous situations that didn't make sense only to be rescued by someone else. I didn't care for the villain being known pretty much right off the bat too. I also found out that this series isn't going to have a follow up novel until after the author has her rights back on the series. Which I have to admit is a bit disappointing since I want to see more of the world and characters but I'm not sure how long that will take. I'm hoping it comes sooner rather than later though. If you're a fan of succubus novels with mystery tossed in I think you might enjoy this book.

The Narrator:

I've listened to a few audiobooks before with Cassandra Campbell as the narrator and this was no different. She did a wonderful job being expressive with the characters and you could easily distinguish between them all.

    1. She made several of those types of decisions in my opinion *nods* But without a book two I have no clue if that's going to be a trend or not *sigh*

  3. To think you might have to wait a long time for a sequel is disheartening.

I do have this book on my list to be read, and I'm hoping to get to it soon.

    Great review!

  4. I think I read maybe once about a succubus as leading lady although I can't remember the book right now (lol) but I do remember I enjoyed it a lot. They're so rare to read about.

    1. She's basically saying until the publisher gives her the writes to publish that series as an indie author instead of through the publisher she won't be writing in that series (and several other series).

  6. There was a TV series on a few years back (in the summer) where one of the main characters was a succubus. There were vampires and werewolves, too.

  7. I listened to this too and completely agree. It just felt a little off, a little flat.

    1. I've enjoyed 3 or 4 of the series I've tried by her. It's hard to keep up with her books though since she has so many now lol Maybe try grabbing one from the library to see if you like it :)
