Melissa's Review:

I wanted to give a little bit of backstory on why I'm reviewing a specific type of diet cookbook before I dive into my review. As some of you already know, I changed my way of eating a year ago and so far I've lost 106 pounds without working out. I started a keto diet, which is eating very low carb and I finally found something that worked well for me. I've always been a heavy girl and I've been on so many different diets over the years but was never able to stay on track for long enough to lose the amount I needed to. That changed when I found a diet that I found sustainable, that left me feeling full longer and the meals didn't feel like a diet at all. I'm able to eat meats, full-fat products, cheese, green veggies, etc. The main things you strictly have to stay away from are bread/pasta/rice and sugar. I know some of you have expressed interest in my way of eating and this book is perfect if you're planning on starting the diet.

The Keto Diet cookbook is an all in one guide to learning about the keto diet. The first half of the book is actually all about the diet itself. It includes why this diet works for so many people, any issues that might arise and how to solve them. I wish I had this resource when I was first starting out, it covers all the basics then throws in meal plans and recipes. The last half of the book is full of recipes ranging from breakfast, entrees, desserts and side items like tortillas or biscuits. I tried out one of each section and plan on utilizing quite a few of the recipes in the future and will more than likely post about them on Instagram. Each recipe goes into depth on the nutritional information per serving and then goes a step further to tell you if it's nut free, vegetarian, and several other options. I found that very helpful, especially if you have food allergies like myself, or are trying to avoid something. Each recipe also includes a full sized picture which I'm always a fan of in cookbooks since I'm more of a visual person. All in all, if you're wanting to start the keto diet or if you're looking for more recipes to try while on this diet this is the perfect book for you.

Some of the recipes I tried:

No-Nuts Brownies
I managed to mess this one up because I didn't follow the directions fully. That was my fault, they still turned out delicious, though a bit burned.

Chicken Pot Pie Crumble
This dish turned out the best, my husband and I loved it and will make it again in the future. There is a lengthy prep time involved but it was well worth the effort.

Salmon Cakes with Dill Cream Sauce
These salmon cakes were super quick to make and I will make these a few times a month. They're easy to customize since you can add whatever seasoning you want. The dill cream sauce was delicious too!

Pancakes
I miss pancakes so much in this way of eating and these turned out great and super filling. I wouldn't expect pancakes with pork rinds to turn out so tasty.

As I said, I'll be trying out more of the recipes soon and will post the results on Instagram if you're interested.

    1. Thanks Silvia! I hope your friend has success if she tries it! :) It's hard for the first week or so until you get used to not eating sugar/high carbs.

    1. Thanks Anna :) It's hard for about a week or two then you get used to it! At least that's how it worked for me and my hubby.

    2. If I ate meat I might be able to do it. But with that and dairy already out I'm quickly running out of food if I eliminate TOO many more things. lol

    3. Yeah I have no clue how some of the people do vegetarian/vegan versions of keto. It would be very difficult to be sure!

    4. I saw one that did vegetarian paleo and holy cow. It would take serious commitment and understanding to be able to do that and still make sure you got the right nutrition. It really sounded like a full time job based off their posts.

    5. Uh huh! It would be quite similar to that. More power to those people, I don't think I'd be able to manage it though lol

    6. Yeah maybe for a week or two but long term would be difficult. It's awesome when you find something that works for you and isn't a huge struggle. From your Instagram it looks like you have fun with it :)

    7. I try to for sure. It's nice finding new recipes to try out. The real test is finding ones that hubby will actually enjoy. He's not super picky but he has no qualms about saying if he likes it or not hahaha

  4. I've seen this one and it seems to work well for so many people including those with autoimmune diseases. I just can't do it as I cannot eat that much meat products but I have special circumstances. Hm... I wonder if my cousin would do well with this one. I'll have to suggest it to her. So glad you found something that works for you!

    1. There is quite a bit of meat in this diet. I've seen some do vegetarian but I think that would make the diet a lot harder than it needs to be. If your cousin does it I hope it works well for her!

  8. I don't follow cook books but this one sounds very good. I always get trouble when I have to buy a new cookbook, especially because I'm a vegan. I don't know which one to choose!! Do you know great vegan cookbooks?
Anyway, you did fantastic job. I'm a terrible cook but my husband is fantastic in cooking. If I find something that looks good I print it for him to see. Haha
I got great recommendations on Anna's and Lola's blogs, and now here. :)
