Melissa's Review:

Blood of the Demon is book 2 in the Kara Gillian series. This series revolves around a detective that summons demons. She figured out a huge case in the previous book and this time around she's on another case full of possible demons and lots of mystery.

Kara Gillian is a police detective that conjures demons. Most people don't know her paranormal side though but it's seemed to help her in the previous book by being able to figure out a serial killer case. In this installment, Kara is showing up to crime scenes only to find the murdered victims have their essence ripped out. It hits a bit too close to home with her Aunt in a coma due to her essence missing. Kara is balancing trying to find out who's behind the murders along with figuring out how to get her Aunt back.

I was really happy to see the demon lord, Rhyzkahl from book one return. He wants Kara to be his exclusive summoner. Without really knowing what all that entails there is an attraction that cannot be denied between the two. I'm really not sure where the romance aspect is going to go in this series. We have the demon lord that haunts Kara's dreams and we also have the FBI agent that helped Kara in the serial killer case in the previous book. It's going to be interesting in the next few books seeing which way she turns. Neither man/demon she can fully trust and there are unanswered questions that I really hope we see resolved in the next book.

Blood of the Demon left me intrigued on where the series is going to go. I had mixed feelings on book one but felt this novel was stronger and didn't carry as many things that annoyed me while reading. So that's a win for me and I'll be buying the next book. I'm hopeful that the series will continue to grow into an excellent Urban Fantasy, it has a great premise and is an attention grabber for sure. If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy with demons I think you'd enjoy these books.

  1. I did read a few that I loved and then it changed and I wasn't interested anymore. I DNFed the last one I read but since 2 are out, maybe I should try again

    1. I didn't :( Just finished up #3 recently and had issues yet again. It's good but I think the author's writing style might not be for me.

    1. I vote if your library has it get it there just in case ;) I've had a few issues with the books, this one worked well for me though.

  6. this sounds like an interesting UF. I haven't read a lot that features Demons as their main thing, but it seems like the author is putting together a decent world. Is there a love triangle than?

    1. Almost on the love triangle, it's not fully there but it probably will be soon. She's shacking up with one and the other so far just wants to be friends but she likes him.

  7. Glad to hear this one was much better for you than the first. I usually have the opposite problem, I love the first book and then lose steam after that. I've read plenty paranormal P.I. stories but never one with a detective that can summon demons. That sounds pretty interesting.

    1. I'm having such mixed feelings on this series to be honest. This one was good, but the next I had issues with again. Thinking I'll stop after another few books. Will probably grab from the library at this point :(
