Melissa's Review:

Jed Had to Die is a standalone novel that revolves around a sassy coffee shop owner back in her hometown to support a friend in need and a sexy sheriff investigating a murder. Tara Sivec's books have been on my TBR for awhile now, and I even have several of them waiting for me to get to them on my kindle. I'm glad I was able to listen to this one, though! Sivec's writing style had a ton of laugh out loud moments and I really enjoyed the mystery element of trying to figure out who the killer was.

We start off meeting Payton Lambert, the sassy coffee shop owner. She gets word that her BFF from high school is in the hospital and high-tails it back to her old hometown, Bald Knob, Kentucky. After helping her old friend decide she doesn't need to stay in an abusive relationship, they change the locks and hope for the best. Things go a bit awry when the next morning they find the abusive husband dead in the back yard. The small town's gossip mill quickly spreads the word that Payton, the troublemaker from back in the day is back and murdered their beloved mayor (aka the abusive husband). Add in that the geeky kid from high school is now a super sexy sheriff and only has eyes for Payton and you have one awesome romance and mystery wrapped in one story.

Jed Had to Die was a hilarious read that has me wanting to read her other books quickly. The things Payton says and her thoughts highly amused me. I do appreciate small towns in books normally, but this time it was mainly focused around how fast the gossip can spread. The sexy sheriff was a nice addition, and I rooted for him to figure out who the real murderer was so he and Payton could get together. If you enjoy a heavy dose of humor added in your romances I think you'd adore this book.

  4. I'm going to read this soon! I really like Tara Sivec - she's almost always hilarious and good for a guilty pleasure. The one standout was Fisher's Light by her. That was one of the most emotional books I've ever read.
