Melissa's Review:

One Lucky Hero is book one in the Men in Uniform series. I grabbed this ebook while it was on sale and wound up loving it. This is one of those stories where the leading lady has so much on her plate she refuses to date. Yet she gets tempted when Mr. Right comes around only to have life cause a lot of bumps in the road.

It all starts when our leading lady, Violet Douglas goes to a concert with her BFF. She meets a hottie (Sgt. Dean Sparks) that is standoffish at first but warms up to her as the night progresses. She winds up doing something she would never do, she decides to have a friends-with-benefits relationship. The reason I say this is something she'd never do is because she takes care of her younger siblings pretty much single mother style and doesn't have time to date. Things don't work out quite the way she plans though when her younger brother gets arrested the morning after and it brings her back to the reality that she needs to not be with anyone and just focus on her siblings. Her brother winds up having to either go to juvie or in a local program called the Alpha Dog Training Program. The easiest way to describe the program would be a sort of boot camp for delinquent kids that teaches them discipline and responsibility via the kids training dogs.

This is where Sgt. Dean Sparks reenters the picture, he happens to run the Alpha Dog Training Program. He can't stop thinking about Violet and wants to see her again and then he finds out the real reason she left and hasn't called him. Knowing her secret doesn't deter him and they wind up spending more time together and their friendship grows. The fact that he doesn't back down when he finds out she takes care of her siblings and has baggage really warmed my heart. It's always great to see nice guy characters in romance since I feel like lately I've just been reading about alpha jerks which have their time and place too. All around I enjoyed this read and will be picking up the next one to see who we get next. If you're a fan of Contemporary Romance with men in uniform, you'll be needing to grab this one asap.

  1. I like the sound of this. It's interesting that he's the guy behind the facility that Violet's brother is in. I'm sure that makes for some interesting dialog.

  4. I think it's great to every now and then encounter an actual nice guy in a book instead of the alpha jerks as you say. Great review!

    1. I have to agree :D He does start off a bit grumpy because he didn't want to be at the concert but it worked out ;)

  5. Sounds good. I'm not fond of alpha jerks in real life. I wonder how they got so popular in fiction.

  6. I'll just put my Mountain Man in uniform since he's not in service. Like crotchless firefighter, police, marine, etc.?

  7. Even though I have a weakness for those alpha's, there is something so endearing about a nice hero and they just aren't written enough. I am pretty excited to pick this book up. Lovely review hun
