Melissa's Review:

While the Duke Was Sleeping is book one in The Rogue Files series. This is a Historical Romance retelling of a movie called While You Were Sleeping. I haven't seen that movie, but can tell you While the Duke Was Sleeping was an excellent read!

We start off the book with Poppy Fairchurch, a flower shop clerk mooning after the handsome Duke of Autenberry. He's a regular customer but hardly even notices her. That doesn't stop Poppy from fantasizing that they'll be married one day. When he leaves the shop one morning he gets in a fight with his half brother, Struan Mackenzie, on the street and winds up in a coma. Poppy escorts the Duke home so he can be cared for and accidentally let slip that she'll be married to him one day, and as you guessed it, she was overheard by someone. This starts a tangled web of lies and she has to continue on playing the part of doting fiancee. As she is worrying about the Duke, his half brother is growing more and more tempted by her with each encounter, and the feeling isn't all that one sided. Their paths continue to cross throughout the novel and Struan and Poppy grow closer without meaning to. And as one would expect, Poppy will have to make the choice if she wants to be with the man she's always dreamed of, or throw it all away.

While the Duke Was Sleeping was my first Sophie Jordan book, but won't be my last. I loved the idea behind the book and felt it was executed well. Struan's character was a bit of a jerk at first but I grew to love him as the story progressed. Poppy was enjoyable from the start, she's a romantic at heart and wants her happily ever after. I'm not certain how close the major details of the retelling is to the movie, but now I'm intrigued and will probably watch it. All in all, this was a delightful read and I suggest it if you enjoy Historical Romance.

  3. Now I have to look up While You Were Sleeping, is that the one with Sandra Bullock?
I've only read her fantasy series, gotta try her other works from different genres. It seems SJ is quite the gifted writer.

    1. Since it's a retelling I'd say it's safe to say it ends roughly the same :P

    1. You should try it out, I'd say get them from the library in case you wind up not liking the genre. I took a very long break from Historical Romance and wound up getting back into it this year and loving it.

    1. lol! If you're a fan of the movie I'm not sure if you'd like it or not since I haven't seen it. So I can't base it off that, but I did enjoy it!
