A to Z - R.L. Naquin

A to Z Challenge - N

R.L. Naquin

I <3 R.L. Naquin's books so she's my pick for the letter N!

Check out our previous A-to-Z posts: K, L, M

*cracks knuckles* I'm going to give you a hard question R.L. Naquin. I know that you love Disney as much as I do... So if you had to sing one Disney song every time you shower, what would it be? Also, which Disney movie is your favorite and why?

Melissa, you know how much I love all things Disney, so I had to answer your shower question. Total honesty, here, I already have a Disney shower song, so I didn’t have to think about it. Really, it’s kind of obvious. Who doesn’t sing “Part of Your World” from the Little Mermaid when they’re in the shower? Not only is the subject matter appropriate when you’re soaking wet, but the acoustics in the bathroom are a perfect substitute for an underwater grotto filled with dinglehoppers and snarfblats. Also, there’s no light inside the shower, so I can reach toward the window in a dramatic pantomime of longing for the warmth of the sun.

No, you’re weird!

And my favorite Disney movie? Beauty and the Beast. I’ve watched it a million times, and I still cry and worry that this time, she won’t be in time to save him. I’ve always loved that story, even before Disney used it. I know a lot of people say Belle was a an abused prisoner, but they’re wrong. The story is about learning to see a person’s heart and loving them for who they really are, not for their superficial qualities. She saved her father by sacrificing herself. She saved the Beast by helping him to find his true self. And she saved herself by being who she wanted to be, despite pressure to be like everyone else. If you want to find a negative message, you’ll find it. I prefer to look for the positive message. Belle is my favorite Disney heroine.

Also, of course, she reads a lot of books. So, there’s that.

Thanks so much for stopping by R.L. Naquin. I do agree, Part of Your World is at the top of my Disney favorite song list!

Title: Unfinished Muse
Author: R.L. Naquin
Series: Mt. Olympus Employment Agency: Muse #1
Buy: Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Wynter Greene is a chronic quitter-in work, in life, and in love. When she quits a job, a boyfriend, and a seemingly minor craft project all in one day, the dormant deity blood in her veins triggers a Welcome Package from the gods. A talking-and singing-houseplant named Phyllis bullies Wynter into taking a job at the Mt. Olympus Employment Agency.

Stuck with a job in the Muse department, Wynter discovers that helping others finish what they start isn't easy, especially for someone who can't seem to finish anything of her own. And how is Wynter supposed to focus on anything when that guy from the Dreams and Nightmares department keeps distracting her with his rippling muscles and magnetic stare?

Wynter needs to figure her job out soon. Each failure is a tick mark on her record, and if she continues to miss her deadlines, she'll be reassigned to the Underworld as a dog walker.

And scooping poop for a giant three-headed dog is nobody's ideal career.

  1. This looks like an interesting book. I do like a story that involves the Greek mythologies. Hercules is one my favorite Disney movies. Lion King is my favorite. I do have library envy for the Beast's library though.
