Melissa's Review:

Some Girls Bite is book one in the Chicagoland Vampires series. I've been meaning to read this series for a few years now but hadn't gotten around to it until recently. I'm so glad I did! Merit, our leading lady is living a normal college life, though she probably is more studious than some of her peers. She's walking the campus late at night when the unthinkable happens, a vampire attacks her. Left for dead, Merit is changed into a vampire by none other than Ethan Sullivan, the master of the Cadogan House.

Merit is thrust into the vampire world and she's not afraid to speak her mind regarding those changes. I rather enjoyed Merit's comments, especially to Ethan. They're a tension between them and I hope they get together sometime later in the series. I'm digging the world even with the somewhat snobby well-dressed vampires and people. I also liked that the vampires came out of the coffin a few years back, and are integrating with society. There are a few issues with the humans and other vampires even though they're public now. Cadogan House is one of the few vampire houses that still believes in the right to drink blood from willing humans, and of course the alternative of blood bags. This is an issue, since a few girls, Merit included were attacked and the others died. Someone is trying to frame vampires, and Merit and Ethan have to figure it out before it's too late.

I'm not sure why I waited so long to start this series. I enjoyed book one so much that I'm already listening to book two. The characters really stood out to me in this book. I enjoyed Merit's wit and strength, and her BFF Mallory was hilarious. All in all this was my first CNeill book and it will not be my last. I'd recommend this series if you're looking for a vampire Urban Fantasy.

The Narrator:
I've been staying in my comfort zone by picking audiobooks in the same series, so I haven't experienced all that many narrators. Cynthia Holloway did a pretty good job with Some Girls Bite. I will say she's a bit stiff in her narration, though. I'm not sure if it's because it's the first book in the series, or if that's her normal style.

  1. I also have this series on my shelves. I have read one shory story though, and was really put off by the juvenile language in the dialogue.

    1. Book one you'll get that snarky juvenile language. Book two not so much :)

  3. I've read the first two books and enjoyed them for the most part! The more politics vs action heavy setting of it makes them a bit slow for me, though. The narrator's stiff in book two, too!

  6. Oh boy! This book was a huge hit with me! There were a few spoilers that stopped me from continuing after book 2 or 3 (can't remember), but I think I might be able to jump back in after the latest reviews in the series.
