Melissa's Review:

Wickedly Dangerous is book one in the Baba Yaga series. Barbara Yager is one of the few Baba Yaga's in the USA. Yes, you read that right, Baba Yaga, as in the being from the Russian folktale. DBlake gave her a modern twist to the story, Barbara travels in her Airstream RV, instead of a hut on chicken legs. Instead of just one Baba Yaga in the world, it's more like a job title, there are a few and the position is passed down. Barbara travels around with her companion, a trusty dragon that takes the shape of a dog when someone is in need of her help. At the start of the book, Barbara is summoned to a small town because children are going missing and the Sherrif, Liam McClellan has no real leads.

Liam is out looking for the missing children in the woods when he spots an RV. Instantly suspicious, he goes to investigate and meets Barbara. Liam was so cute, he gets all flustered and tongue tied around her at first. You can pretty much tell he's the love interest right off the bat. But with the missing children and a few other things in town going down, there isn't much time for a relationship. I think the big thing I looked forward to in the story was seeing how Liam would react when he found out Barbara wasn't what he thought she was.

I rather enjoyed Wickedly Dangerous. The characters could have been a little bit more fleshed out but this really was a quick read and I enjoyed it overall. I also would have liked the big reveal of the villain more towards the end. I felt that the villain was introduced and suspected a lot earlier than he/she should have been. I love the idea behind the series, and will definitely be grabbing book two soon. PS: I loved Chudo-Yudo, the dragon that takes the shape of a dog. I recommend this book if you're looking for a little bit of mythology/folklore mixed into your Urban Fantasy.

    1. Yes, they are very mixed reviews! I can see why some people didn't like it, but that stuff didn't wind up bothering me :)

  6. This is something I really want to try. Glad to see you enjoyed this one. I saw that the full length novels are available on audio, so I plan to listen to them. I'll have to read the novellas, though. I do have to finish a few series before I can start a new one, but this one is on my list when I do.
