Melissa's Review:

Sweet Ruin is book 15 in the Immortals After Dark series. This story is about Josephine (aka Jo). The book opens and we're introduced to a young Jo and her baby brother living on the streets. She's rough around the edges for someone at such a young age and she doesn't take crap from anyone. After a little bit, she finds out she's not quite human and that she has powers.

Then it flashes forward and Jo is in New Orleans. She meets Rune, a half-demon that is extremely promiscuous. And I mean extremely, she caught him in the act while out and about on the streets. One thing leads to another and the duo winds up teaming together to track down Nix and Jo's brother. Rune explains bits of the Lore to Jo as their journey progresses since she's new to that world. And of course, along their journey they grow actual feelings for one another without meaning to. Jo is brutally honest, in your face type of character so I was wondering who she'd wind up with. I think KCole paired her up well.

I loved this book but had frustration issues with each of the big characters at times. Jo's character was careless even with warnings from Rune. It's showing that she's young, and really doesn't know her way around the Lore but oh my she frustrated me a few times. Rune, on the other hand, thinks with something other than his brain every now and then and one of the scenes pissed me off. I've always enjoyed Nix's character, I know she's portrayed as a bit crazy in all the other books, but whoa. Her actions in this one were a bit more brutal than usual.

Sweet Ruin is an addicting addition to the Immortals After Dark series. I had a hard time putting the book down. I can't wait to see whose book is next. I skipped two or three books directly before this one because I am impatient, but I plan on picking those up soon. That being said, I'd say you can read these out of order as long as you're somewhat familiar with the series. Though it might give you a few spoilers along the way. I adore this series and highly suggest it if you haven't read it yet.

  2. I was very disappointed with Rune in this book. I liked Jo, but you're right she wasn't good about taking advice from Rune. She had always lived with her own rules, it was hard for her to take rules from others. Great review.

  6. Oh I absolutely HATED Nix in this one. I was really hoping they'd kill her. I couldn't believe! I've always enjoyed her and her quirk but she was horrid in this one. I was pretty disappointed in that.

    2. I just couldn't figure out what had happened with her. Now, I'd missed the two previous books, but dang I do NOT remember having such a bad reaction to her at all. Whew! I haven't posted my review yet but on Goodreads I had a good grrrr on her. lol

    3. haha we're in the same boat, I missed the previous 2 or 3 as well. Maybe there's a reason for her shift in those. If there's not, I feel like people will explain it as "that's what it took to get them together".
