Melissa's Review:

Magic Stars is book #8.5 in the Kate Daniels series. While some novellas can be read out of order, I strongly suggest reading through Magic Shifts (book 8) before you read this novella or you'll get spoilers.

This book focuses on Derek Gaunt, the wolf we all know and love from the pack, and Julie Lennart-Olsen, Kate's ward. Derek is trying to find out who is behind a murder that happened and along his way Julie strolls by and decides to go with him. I have always enjoyed Derek's character and wanted to know more about him. This novella fits the bill perfectly for what I wanted. We not only get in Derek's head, we find out bits about Julie that we haven't heard before. Julie is really taking after Kate, both in stubbornness, and fierceness. The series just keeps getting more and more interesting. I'm eagerly awaiting to see where the authors take the series in the next book. Something big is going to go down, I can feel it.

PS: I'd love to see a spin-off series with Julie and Derek as the main characters once she's an adult *cough cough* Am I the only one?

  3. Sounds like an interesting series, but it is so hard to start a series when it is already so far in!

  4. Sigh, I almost bought this because it's so cheap. Then after some looking up, it's a spin-off. Oh boy, I hope I get to read KD soon.

Happy (almost) new year Mel & Drea!

    1. I'm really hoping it means Julie and Derek will get a series later on. I feel like they will, but that might just be me being hopeful. She's still underage and no romance between the two but they understand one another *nods*
