Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn't have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach's step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he's never forgotten.
She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach's a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah's only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.
Living with outlaw bikers wasn't Sophie's plan for her son, but Ruger isn't giving her a choice. He'll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she'll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.
Drea's Review:I'm having difficulty picking a rating and here's why:
The writing is great, the sex scenes sizzling, and the premise decent but large parts of the book, namely the hero's attitude, didn't gel well with me.
For one thing, he was sleeping around for the first half of the book. As a huge "manwhore", he wanted the heroine to be monogamous but he wasn't going to promise her the same respect. He acted like his honesty ought to be lauded. That's the majority of the book's conflict right there and that's why I can't give this 5 stars or even a full 4 stars.
Other than that, it's a decent read...if you like your heroes to do exactly what they want no matter what the heroine says. I'm being a bit harsh on that, but the number of times Sophie rolled over and let him have his way (and her) because of her traitorous bitch of a body (paraphrasing her quotes there, not my own), was kind of much. I supposed that's what I was signing up for when I opened a book about a motorcycle club.
There are small side plots about a rival gang and a kidnapping, plus the d-bag brother Zach, but largely the book is about the romance. And that's the way I like it. Unfortunately this romance wasn't all that romantic. The characters do get their happy for now, but I question how long that'll last given the hero's performance in the first half of the book and Sophie's lack of a backbone.
The narration was decent, at least when Tatiana is speaking (and she does more than Todd). Her version of Ruger (the hero) isn't bad, but Todd's version of Sophie (the heroine) had me cringing. Once you get past that, it's not so bad.
