Release Date: August 5th 2014

In this highly anticipated novel in the Immortals After Dark series, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole spins a sultry tale of a mighty warrior scarred inside and out and the beguiling sorceress with the power to heal him - or vanquish him forever.

Eternal Obsession

As a boy, Thronos, Lord of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body - and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

Endless Yearning

Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.

Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?

With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?
Why I am waiting:
It has been awhile since I read a KCole book, but I love the Immortals After Dark series.

What book are you waiting on this week?

Drea's Review:

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After dropping out of law school, Sophie has been flitting about with no real goals despite her bachelor’s degree. Until a chance encounter in a broken elevator prior to a rowdy Vegas bachelorette party has her hitting rock bottom. Mistaken for a streetwalker? Does it get any worse?
Yeah. It does. Because the icy guy who mistook Sophie for a pro is her older sister’s latest perfect boyfriend. And said immaculate sister has just arranged for Sophie to have a shiny new job working for Mr. Rich-and-Better-Than-Her. Sophie needs the money since she’s quit her cocktail waitressing job. Accepting the position will give her a chance to prove she can be professional in the corporate way.

This book had me hooked from the first page with Sophie’s simply trying to choose between hooker boots and sensible sandals for the bachelorette party. I stayed up far too late swiping pages so I could discover what happened next. I wasn’t disappointed.

Gray is your typical tall, dark, and broody millionaire businessman, though he is a little chillier than most of the ones I’ve read so far. The contrast between effervescent Sophie and seemingly flat Gray is even better when these two are fighting. And they fight pretty much all the way through the story.

The bickering is at times juvenile (on Sophie’s part), but only a few spots had me rolling my eyes. The rest were amusing. I had at least two laugh-out-loud moments—and getting grumpy me to laugh is quite a feat. My two favorite lines were:

“[Sophie's sister] Didn’t have distracting curves or wear inappropriate clothes or act like she was chronically on the verge of throwing glitter at random passersby.”

“There would be an Oreo-involved breakdown once she got upstairs, but for now she had to hold it together. She didn’t want her messy emotions to get all over his pristine car.”

There’s also a side story of Brynn (the sister) and Sophie’s best friend Will that isn’t terribly surprising and is also fun. We get a little twist there at the end that will likely having me grabbing another book. *shakes her fist and smiles*

Another great part is Sophie’s growth and her standing up for herself finally to Gray and her family.

So why didn’t this receive 5*? Well, the juvenile bickering I’d mentioned above wasn’t impressive. But more than that, there was a particularly hurtful comment Gray says and Sophie overhears toward the end that never quite gets explained away—at least in my mind.

Otherwise this is a fun, light read perfect for the beach or your next thunderstorm.

Grab this if you like chilly millionaires and the bubbly gals they bicker with (and then fall for).

Excerpt:
Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, and Katharine Hepburn had been Sarah Wells’s babysitters when she was growing up—which explained a lot about how she turned out. She’d go to her neighbor Miss Gloria’s apartment in the afternoons and watch old movies while her mother entertained one of her “guests.” Mom’s guests could get violent sometimes; a couple of them had even suggested they preferred Sarah’s undeveloped body over her mother’s, so Sarah had learned to stay gone most of the time. Miss Gloria, an eighty-year-old black woman who’d grown up in Brooklyn, liked to drink black coffee wearing a muumuu and house slippers and watch the classics until she fell asleep on the couch. Sarah felt safe surrounded by the floral wallpaper and the old-fashioned images on the tiny black-and-white screen Miss Gloria wiped down with Windex every morning.
“That was true beauty,” the old woman would croon every now and then when she’d wake up and see Marilyn or Greta on the screen.
Sarah figured that if Miss Gloria was right, her mother qualified as truly beautiful. She had big eyes, big, pouty lips, and clear, flawless skin. Even after years of smoking, Sarah’s mother was still beautiful; but that didn’t stop her from getting pushed around by her clients every now and then, or drinking herself into oblivion. Those were the worst nights, the nights when her mother would get drunk and talk about Sarah’s father, about how he’d kill them both if he ever got out of prison. She’d made Sarah promise, over and over again, that if he ever got out, Sarah would run away, as far and as fast as she could. Sarah didn’t understand why her mother was so certain he’d come after them or why he was even in prison in the first place, but she knew well enough that if her mother considered him dangerous, he was someone to avoid.
Bad things happened all the time in their neighborhood; women and girls were snatched off the streets, stores were robbed, people were killed. Sarah was certain that the Desert Palms apartments had always been dingy and nondescript since they were first built in the fifties, but by the early nineties, things had gotten even worse. Graffiti covered most of the walls and the sign outside. The palms that had been planted around the buildings had long since died. Only one
lone cactus remained, which she admired for its sheer stubbornness. Even spray-painted with crude lettering, it somehow managed to look defiant.
When Miss Gloria was transferred to a nursing home, Sarah stayed at the library during the afternoons, and in the evenings her mother would take her to the club she worked most nights, a place with a large black man guarding the door, lots of bright purple lights, and women dressed in sparkles. The club, Dominoes, hidden pretty deep in the middle of nowhere, had always been a popular destination for wealthy foreigners. Sarah had loved the clothes the women wore there; she had wanted to wear feathers and diamonds and high-heeled shoes, too. Sometimes the strippers would dress her up and tell her that someday she would be a heartbreaker.
“Probably,” Sarah usually agreed, although she didn’t see how being beautiful had helped her mother, or any of the other strippers.
Some of them thought they had power when they danced. Sarah heard them talking about how all the men in the audience had been begging for it, and how much the strippers liked keeping it from them. Sarah could understand that. She supposed that if she were at the mercy of the vicious men who ran the club, she’d be looking for power any way she could find it, but she wasn’t about to spend her life taking her clothes off for money.
One night, just after she turned fourteen, she was doing her homework in the dressing room of the club when she realized that a couple of the dancers were looking at her and whispering. Sarah was used to this kind of behavior at school, where her rather large breasts and pretty porcelain skin were the subject of many hushed conversations, but the girls at the club rarely bothered to notice her.
“What’s up?” she asked, curious.
Colleen, a frowsy redhead, looked a little worried, chewing on her lower lip with her teeth.
“Nothing, honey. We just can’t find your mom.”
“What do you mean?” Sarah demanded. “She’s dancing.” She set her schoolbooks aside and stood. “Show me where she’s supposed to be.” Even though Sarah was only fourteen, people tended to do what she asked of them.
The girls, Megan and Colleen, led her out of the dressing room into the curtained-off area where the dancers waited for their cues.
Feathers were floating cheerfully in the air, the liberated plumage of a boa that had been used in one of the acts before a dancer had accidently ripped it in half onstage.
Colleen pulled her away from the center of the curtains where the girls stalked out onto a type of runway and led her down the side of the crescent-shaped waiting area to another opening in the curtain. Her long nails dug into Sarah’s arm.
“She’s supposed to be over there,” Colleen whispered, and pointed to the far corner. “She never misses a dance.”

Sarah knew that—that’s why she was worried.

Review: By a Thread

Title: By a Thread

Release Date: February 28th 2012
Format: Audiobook

Gin Blanco returns in book six of the Elemental Assassin series. After killing Mab Monroe, her cover as The Spider has been blown and she has all the wannabe thugs out to get her in attempts to prove themselves. Talk about annoying, you'd think her taking out a big villain would cause people to not try messing with her. Anyway, she desperately needs a vacation due to all the pesky people. Her and Bria hit the road and head back to Bria's old stomping grounds. They meet up with Bria's BFF, only to find out that Callie, Bria's BFF is being threatened to sell her restaurant or else a vampire will do something bad like torch the place and kill her.

Gin and Bria are having pretty bad tension in this book. I've noticed similarities between Bria and Donovan in the past and knew he'd make a reappearance sometime soon. Much to my surprise, he actually reappears in this book as Callie's fiance. Gin basically has to deal with Donovan's bs while trying to kill the vampire that is out to get Callie. As per norm, there is a lot of plotting, fighting, and a big blow out near the end. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, and will be getting the next one in the near future. If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy, I highly suggest this series.

Drea's Review: Pet to the Tentacle Monsters!

Title: Pet to the Tentacle Monsters!
Author: Lilia Ford
Release Date: April 9th 2014
Format: Ebook
Length: Novella/56 pages
Source: Netgalley
Buy: Amazon, BN

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Official blurb:
It’s been more than twelve years since the alien invasion wiped out much of the human population and forced those who were left into Refugee Communes. As far as Benji Tucker is concerned, a life devoted to bare survival is boring as hell. But when a stupid prank threatens to bring disaster down on the entire commune, the Galactic Enforcers show up and announce Benji is now eligible for adoption—by the invaders!

He wakes in a plain white cell to find three very different monsters determined to make him their pet.

Warning: Adult Readers Only. Contains plenty of hot, non-consensual tentacle action, including but not limited to tentacle spanking, tentacle gagging, and tentacle-sex. Quite separately, it also contains an adorable pink-rainbow-sparkle tentacle monster. Those who dislike adorable pink rainbow sparkles or hot tentacle action should definitely not read this book.

Melissa pointed this one out on Netgalley but didn't have time, so I volunteered to take one for the LilyElement team. First, a few upfront notes. The concept of tentacle porn isn't new to me because I have some warped friends, but I've never actually read anything with tentacles. I wasn't sure what to expect apart from tentacles in every hole. I'm also not a big fan of the concept. So, going into it, I was confident I wouldn't like it.

That said, it actually wasn't that bad. *gasp*

The writing isn't amazing but it's also not cringe-worthy. I didn't find myself putting the book aside because I was disgusted, irritated, or shaking my head. The hero didn't make me want to slap him with a wet fish (or an octopus?). And there is quite a bit of world building at the start to explain why there are tentacle monsters on Earth and why this human is stuck being the pet. These factors are why it gets the two stars.

I wanted to give this two and a half stars (maybe even closer to three) because it was an easy, fast read but here are the reasons why I didn't:
There wasn't any dialogue between the characters (until the very end) because...well, the "love interests" are tentacle monsters. Even though that makes sense given the concept, I like the back and forth between characters best and this has none. That made it harder for me to get into the story.

As far as this being a "hot" read as the author states in the blurb? Simply because there are tentacles going into multiple orifices doesn't make a story hot. Nor does the fact that it's non-consensual tentacle sex (tentacle rape?). There wasn't enough description of how the character felt using the five senses during any of that for me to be into it. I didn't get tingles, or shivers...I don't think Benji did either. Yes, he orgasmed and was humiliated quite a bit, and maybe some people get off on reading about that, but not me. I need the "showing" of sex rather than the "telling" of it. Thus I couldn't give this the extra star or half star because it wasn't sizzling as an erotic story ought to be.

However, the addable pink rainbow sparkle monster is, in fact, adorable.

WoW [114] - Servants of the Storm

Servants of the Storm - Delilah S. Dawson
Release Date: August 5th, 2014

A year ago Hurricane Josephine swept through Savannah, Georgia, leaving behind nothing but death and destruction — and taking the life of Dovey's best friend, Carly. Since that night, Dovey has been in a medicated haze, numb to everything around her.

But recently she's started to believe she's seeing things that can't be real ... including Carly at their favorite cafe. Determined to learn the truth, Dovey stops taking her pills. And the world that opens up to her is unlike anything she could have imagined.

As Dovey slips deeper into the shadowy corners of Savannah — where the dark and horrifying secrets lurk — she learns that the storm that destroyed her city and stole her friend was much more than a force of nature. And now the sinister beings truly responsible are out to finish what they started.

Dovey's running out of time and torn between two paths. Will she trust her childhood friend Baker, who can't see the threatening darkness but promises to never give up on Dovey and Carly? Or will she plot with the sexy stranger, Isaac, who offers all the answers — for a price? Soon Dovey realizes that the danger closing in has little to do with Carly ... and everything to do with Dovey herself.
Why I am waiting:
I love Delilah Dawson's writing style. While this isn't her Blud series, I'll definitely be checking this one out.

What book are you waiting on this week?

Drea's Review:

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It’s Landon’s turn to watch over his young nephew for a week, but this executive doesn’t have time to chase a six-year-old around his perfect condo. In steps Kimber on Landon’s sister’s suggestion. Kimber doesn’t know the first thing about being a nanny, and she’s had a crush on Landon since she was a teenager. She needs money—money to buy out her ex’s half of her business. But this is a recipe for disaster. Nevertheless she reluctantly agrees to take the temporary live-in gig. Landon and Kimber both have baggage that would keep them single. So of course they make a sexy no-strings-attached agreement ;)

These are both great characters, the love scenes are hot, and the plot is believable. There’s no insta-romance…some because these two knew each other as kids and some because they each have things the other needs. Landon was a hero who needed to cut loose once in a while and Kimber was just the boho gal to help him. And Kimber needed a stable guy who wasn’t going to cut out on her for once.

So why didn’t I give it 5*? There’s a bit of miscommunication that makes the story drag on a little longer than I’d have liked.

Grab this one if you like reading about uptight professionals who finally lets loose for the perfect woman.

Excerpt:
The locker room welcomed me with the smell of freshly washed uniforms and leather workout equipment. The familiar scents tickled my nose and I envisioned my locker room back home. I remembered giving speeches to my team, rallying them against our foes. I felt like a general
sometimes. Here, I just listened. Sure, I liked everyone, but I really wished I could just be myself. I rolled my stiff shoulders and decided that tape wasn’t all I needed—a long hot shower would do my body a world of good. And I didn’t want to let the guards have the satisfaction of getting me out of their hair so soon.

I dropped my clothes at the threshold of the locker room and the adjoining shower room. I was never weirded-out by the team showering together. It was what athletes did. When you’re there, making jokes under the steaming water, splashing and commiserating, it was almost better that you were naked. It showed your trust. The team saw you at your most vulnerable. I wanted them to know they could trust me, so, therefore, I let them see my boobs. Common sense. It did kind of make me sad that even though we’d been playing together since September, I couldn’t really call many of them my friends. Except for my roommate, Callie.

The weirdest thing was the only person I had met besides Callie that I really felt a connection to was the team’s landlord, whom they had nicknamed the Red Devil. Her real name is Scarlett. I had actually never spoken to her, but something about her drew me in. She was intimidating as
hell—tall like us basketball folk, flaming-red curls that hung to her waist, and heels that could kill small animals that skittered into their path. The team hated her strict curfews and neat- freakery. I liked her. Powerful women were cool, and it pissed me off when they were labeled “bitches” just because they knew what they wanted. Plus, I liked that she owned a little new-age shop in town that, rumor has it, has a secret back room. So yeah, Scarlett was cool. Scary, but cool.

I made my way across the white tile floor, dodging cold puddles, and cranked my lucky showerhead number thirteen to a scorching blast. Every time I had picked this one, we won, so I never showered anywhere else. Except at home—my real home, that is. I stood under the scalding deluge and tipped my head up to feel the hot spray in my mouth. I had to
singe off the thin layer of failure from last night’s game. I grabbed a loofah and scrubbed my skin to a near polish. Rolling my shoulders, I took a squirt of the lavender-scented shampoo and worked it into my long curls.

Sighing, I let my naked back slouch against the cold tiles as I worked my scalp. My ex, Ty, had loved giving me massages. But that was all he wanted, touching. College was supposed to be a fantastic dating scene, but all I ever got were guys who wanted me for the wrong reasons. Boys
who were lazy and easy. Not that I had an ideal guy in mind, but I just wanted to work for it. I wanted the hunt. Lamenting my permanently single status, I watched the last few soap bubbles drop from my hair to the floor. Absentmindedly, I turned and reached for my towel and found
nothing. I glanced around the empty room. Always, without fail, I’d put my towel within arm’s reach of my lucky showerhead. How could I forget that today? I really was off my game on several levels. Padding wetly, dripping like a mermaid, I made my way toward the locker room’s entryway where my clothes sat.

Only, my clothes weren’t there either.

I took a tentative step into the locker room and turned toward my locker, where at least a practice uniform would be waiting for me. Or maybe I left my clothes there. Get your head together, Thea.

Every time I saw that locker, I’d chuckle. My obnoxious Greek last name was too long to fit on the nameplate, or my jersey for that matter, so instead of reading PAPASTATHOPOULOS, it just said PAPAS. That’s why the team had taken to calling me “Pops.”
But instead of seeing my truncated name or a pile of clothes, I saw a guy.

Trapped at the Altar - Jane Feather
Torn between a true love and family duty…

Ariadne "Ari" Carfax has never been one to play by the rules; she’s an heiress to the Carfax family, banished from London when Oliver Cromwell seized the throne from King Charles, who has since gained notoriety for pillaging, thieving, and ruling the Carfax Valley with an iron glove. All too soon, Ari finds herself in her family’s legendary vise, forced into a marriage to Ivor Chalfont, Ari’s childhood friend and confidante, against her wishes.

While the Carfax family has only its own interest at heart—a union between the Catholic Carfaxes and Protestant Chalfonts will guarantee the Carfaxes’ reinstatement at London court, and the rehabilitation of their noble name—Ari cannot bear the thought of being separated from her secret lover/poet, Gabriel. She vows to fight her family—and Ivor—every step of the way, even when forced into the marital ceremony at her own grandfather’s wake, in a treacherous coup de etat that leaves her wed to another, and eternally broken-hearted.

Sending Gabriel to the temporary safety of Lord Monmouth’s outpost at The Hague in Scotland, Ari resigns herself to her new life as Lady Ivor Chalfont—at least until the newlyweds travel to London, and she can escape her new husband and reunite with Gabriel. As the two make their preparations to travel, however, Ari finds herself entertaining entirely uncharacteristic thoughts about her new husband: she finds that she likes him as perhaps more than a friend, after all. Not wanting to be disloyal to Gabriel, but simultaneously more and more attracted to Ivor, Ari can’t help but give into the physical pull between her and her new husband, and the two embark on a tentative, post-marital courtship that just might hold the seeds of love…until, that is, Gabriel spots Ari in London and makes it his mission to get her back. Ari is caught between a lover who might be better left in the past, and a husband who she just might be able to love; who will win Ari’s heart?

Set in 1600s England during the tumultuous Monmouth Rebellion, this is the epic story of what happens when the one thing we think we can trust—our hearts—turns out to be the most duplicitous.

White. Gazing out of the small, circular window, it was the only colour he could see surrounding him. The bursts of light—which had broken through the heavy, grey clouds—were reflected back as the ground grew closer with each passing second. Not too long ago he had been blissfully unaware of the location his sister was dragging him to for a holiday. A bubble of excitement had surrounded him throughout the early morning as he got up, and stayed with him through travelling to the airport and catching the flight. However, it had burst as soon as the icy tips of the mountains appeared and the plane began its descent. Until that moment, he had hoped his guesses had been wrong.
His sister had carefully planned the trip, making sure to hide all clues as to where they were heading, and as she glanced across at him, it seemed as if she had been successful. Luke’s knuckles were white on the arm rests. He had claimed both of them, gripping them so hard they looked like they would snap under the force, or at least be moulded to the shape of his hands when he removed them.
Ellie watched as he took in a shaky breath, but she heard no exhale.
“Luke?”
The silence that filled the space around them was icier than the Alps they had just flown over. Her brother’s gaze remained fixed on the window, watching as the ground, and his fate, drew ever closer. Deep, ragged breaths steamed up the window, which was almost touching his nose. Desperately, he tried to control the tremors shaking his body, and his pounding heart, from the fear that washed over him in waves.
“Luke, please, say something.” Worry had crept into Ellie’s tone. She had thought her idea would do him good, that forcing him to face everything would turn him back into his old self. Ellie missed the brother she had grown up with and wanted him back. However, seeing his eyes wide with fear, his jaw clenched in anger, and his arms tense with both, suddenly she wasn’t so sure about her plan.
“You promised, Ellie. You swore you wouldn’t pressure me, and I trusted you with that. You know how I feel about this.” His voice was sharp and curt as he spoke through clenched teeth, trying to keep a hold on his emotions.
The urge to flee surged within him. He wanted to go home, to get off the plane and board the next flight straight back to England, but he couldn’t. Not only was the plane still minutes from landing—trapping him in the confines of economy class, which felt even smaller as realisation forced him to understand Ellie’s plans—but he also refused to waste more money on the pointless trip Ellie had conned him into taking. If he was going to use the money he had earned from before everything changed, it would be on his own terms.
“You’ll enjoy it when you’re there,” Ellie stated, brushing off his comments like they meant nothing to her.
“That’s easy for you to say. You don’t have to live with, or through, what I have.” Luke was trying hard to control his voice. Had they been in private, he would have already been shouting. The cramped environment meant that Ellie was getting off lightly, but he swore that when they reached their chalet, he would not hold back. She had no right to interfere with his life.
“Never tell me I didn’t live through it, Luke. I was there when it happened, in the hospital, and when you got home. I was there through it all. It may not have been me, but it wasn’t like it had no effect on my life,” Ellie hissed. It was the only way she could convey her anger without disturbing other passengers.
“Why though, Ellie? Why is this such a big deal to you?” Luke’s eyes were full of sorrow as he turned to face his sister for the first time, begging to understand her reasoning for putting him through something she knew would hurt him.

Review: Beautiful Bastard

Title: Beautiful Bastard
Author: Christina Lauren
Release Date: February 12th 2013
Format: Paperback
Source: Won from TalkSupe
Buy: Amazon, BN

Chloe Mills is an intern for Bennett Ryan and is awesome at what she does. She's been working there for years and is about to finish up her MBA. Somehow she manages to deal with her "beautiful bastard" of a boss, Bennett Ryan. I'm pretty sure he would make anyone break down and cry due to his abrasive personality, but Chloe manages. Whenever he makes a rude comment, she gives one right back at him. This happens through the majority of the book, so if you're not interested in a boss being a jerk, you should pass on this one. I'm thinking CLauren was trying to make the two snipe at one another so much to reflect how alike Chloe and Bennett really are. It gets a bit tiring in my opinion, but I did enjoy the book.

It doesn't take long before they start having sex everywhere, in the office, in an elevator, in the stairs, you name it they'll probably do it there. Both are like what the heck am I doing, this is wrong but it feels so right. I was wondering how it would end, if they'd continue with the fling, or if they'd manage to make things work. You slowly start seeing Bennett change from a dick, to caring about what happens to Chloe. His main concern is people thinking she's sleeping her way to the top, that would ruin her just beginning career. That doesn't really enter his mind at the start though. I did enjoy the book, and plan on reading the next few in the near future. If you're looking for a naughty read that has a boss/intern relationship this is the book for you.
