TWIN KILLING

Agent Sam Ryan wants out of the Special Investigations Unit. She’s sick of the attitude from her partner, Gabriel Stern. She’s sick of the paperwork. Most of all, she’s sick of feeling lonely. But her boss isn’t about to let her go that easily. He gives Sam a choice: either stay stuck in her office or guard a clone replacement of Dan Wetherton, a government minister. Sam reluctantly chooses the latter—even though she suspects she’s being used as bait to draw out the SIU’s elusive nemesis.

Gabriel would like nothing better than to be on his own, without a partner to hold him back. Then he learns that Sam has been assigned to protect Wetherton—or whatever it is that’s replaced him. Wetherton’s clone could have come from only one place: Hopeworth, the military base that contains the secrets of Sam’s past. Determined to protect her, Gabriel is drawn into a fight against unspeakable evil. And all too soon, Sam and Gabriel discover that the connection between them is far more powerful than anyone could ever have imagined.

Sam Ryan is part of the Special Investigations Unit aka the Spook Squad. As I mentioned in my review for book two of the series, Sam is growing tired of her partner's bs, but this time around she has finally had enough. Being stuck with a desk job rather than out on the streets solving crimes with her partner has made her finally want a transfer. Her boss decides to put her on a different case without Gabriel and if she still feels like she wants a transfer or different partner she can have it afterwards.

The case is guarding Dan Wetherton, a minister for the government. As always, Sam seems to get in heaps of trouble while out on the streets. It seems to follow her at every turn, which always makes me wonder how she's going to figure out and resolve the mess she is in. This of course leads to an action packed novel that keeps you on your toes. Gabriel, the partner that wants to keep Sam safe, is in Penumbra and I have mixed feelings about his character. I like him because he's smart, strong and sexy, but at the same time his character falls a bit flat at times for me.

Penumbra is book 3 in the series and appears to be the last book in the series. That being said, the story did not wrap up, it feels like there should be another book in the series to completely wrap up all the loose ends. I'm not sure what happened, and I'm in no way saying I didn't enjoy this series, it just doesn't feel complete. I see quite a few parallels between this series an KArthur's Riley Jenson Guardian series, and since I know this one is a reprint, I am thinking this helped her create that series. Each has their pros, and I would suggest both depending on what you prefer. I would recommend the Spook Squad series if you're looking for a Urban Fantasy with not much romance tossed in. If you are looking for a Paranormal Romance I'd suggest KArthur's Riley Jenson series instead.

  1. yeah I'm not happy at all. It's a good book in a whole, and I really enjoyed it but it's really not a good end, but there is no end!!!! Well I was sad....

    1. Agreed about the end, I kept reading thinking okay so there's gonna be a next book, this isn't wrapping up. Either that or it'll wrap up super fast which KArthur usually doesn't do...

    2. It's weird I don't understand why they did re release for series not finished. I really hope that one day we'll have a real end for this one.

  2. I love UF, cannot believe I am not reading this yet. But yep it does sound like there should be another book coming or maybe she will do a spin-off? That happens.

  3. I'm curious about the no ending part on this one o_0 I'm kind of excited and more willing to jump in with only 3 books out, but now I must wait.

    1. Since these are a rerelease I'm thinking there won't be another book in the series.

  4. OH that would annoy me in the end. I need a good finish for a series. Maybe one day she'll go back?

  5. Oh noes! Maybe she has a little something in her site? I hate it when publishers do this, cut the series short because the sales aren't doing good or whatever shitty reason they give. I hope there's another one

  6. Perhaps she will self publish the final book if the publisher has killed off this series, as soon as she has her rights back. But I agree, I don't like unfinished series, and it happens way too often.

    1. Hope so!! Especially since they were just rereleased recently which to me would mean the rights were probably back in her hands.
