Gwen, a doctor in the ER has seizures that are progressively getting worse and are potentially life threatening. Feeling lonely and depressed by the news, Gwen heads to a biker bar to pick someone up for a little bit of comfort and to escape her life. She meets a tall biker that can satisfy all of her needs and quickly leaves the bar with him. Though I personally wouldn't leave a bar with a random guy, I will admit I would happily ogle a huge alpha male chatting me up. Rifter, the hunky biker can't seem to shake his instant attraction to Gwen, so when they head back to her place and she winds up having a seizure, it sparks the protective instinct in Rifter.

Rifter is a Dire, think alpha male werewolf that is a step above the regular werewolves. The mission for the Dires is to watch over and enforce against werewolves acting up and exposing themselves. If that isn't enough to handle, the Dires are at war with the weretrappers and the witches, who have teamed up and constantly hunt them, no matter the surroundings. Handling the weretrappers and the others Dires keeps Rifter busy, yet he is protecting Gwen because he cannot shake the feeling that her seizures are caused by something else. With so much going on I'll admit I was slightly overwhelmed due to too many characters being thrown at me all at once, but I quickly adapted to what was happening and who said what. Dire Needs left me engrossed in their world and wanting to know more. This is definitely a great start to a series that holds serious promise.

  1. Whoa! You review at OUAR?! Damn I really behind gossip here!

Anyway I've only read one of her books, it's a contemporary one. It's good action wise but I didn't enjoy the characters much and I didn't buy the stockholm syndrome-like plot. Maybe her PNR books are better.

    1. Yep! Every now and then :)

This series kind of reminded me of BDB.
