Janie, a college art teacher is plagued with brutal nightmares. She is a painter, but can't control what comes out when she is in the zone. Living a pretty much normal life with her BFF Cyndi, things start getting kind of crazy when she sees some unbelievable paranormal events in a parking garage. Denial is her friend until she can't deny that there are other things in the world.

Luke (aka Lucifier) is a hottie searching for the painter that will help him find his way back to heaven. He has tried and failed so many times before, so he can only hope the next reincarnated painter will be the one.

The book focuses on the present as well as the past. The present contains Janie's daily life. This ranges from Janie teaching her class, to strangers out to get her. The past is all about Luke (aka Lucifer) interacting with God and Eve in Eden. It brought a little bit of the story we all know and twisted it where the reader is seeing what is happening with details. The Mark of Abel is a fast read that left me craving more. I cannot wait to read more from Viola Ryan.

    1. Question: This may be digging too deep, but seeing as this book is about Lucifer trying to make his way back into Heaven, what are your religious stand points? And how hard/easy was it to write this book?

    3. Ana,

I don't consider the book to be religious. It reimagines the Judeo-Christian stories many of us grew up with much the way other paranormal series do with Wicca or Native American beliefs.

Originally it was just a vampire story. The scene that inspired it was a vampire biting the woman he love to turn her, giving her the greatest gift he knew. She didn't understand, was abhorred and rejected him. The original title was Rejection: A Vampire's Tale. The biggest rejection is stories is Lucifer's expulsion from heaven, so he decided he wanted to be the hero. That scene has been significantly changed, but dealing with rejection is a major theme in the book.

It was fun playing with what little we do have about Lucifer to expand his story and explain his actions. I hope you enjoy it.

    4. Viola,

      That makes sense.

I'm still very, very intrigued. Can't wait to read this one! And thanks for answering my question. I've read a few books that have some sort of religious standpoint thrown in but mixed very well and to the point that you don't really think you're reading a book that drips with ones religious beliefs and what not.
