Book Description:

Gerry Hinton thought she had the perfect career as an operative for the Company. Her next assignment should have been another "mission accomplished", but hell was delivering hand baskets that day.

When a little girl gives a mysterious silver box to Gerry, her world self-destructs. Suddenly under constant mental attacks, the only person who can save her is her partner, Nicky--but nothing comes without a cost. Secrets buried deep in the past begin to rise, threatening everything she holds dear.

If she can't out run her past, can she save her future?

Excerpt:

When he turned, Gerry was standing, tall and stony, against a concrete pillar. Her brown eyes were focused on nothing, though the pupils flitted back and forth as if she were following a pin ball. He approached with easy steps until he stood before her, then he waved his hand in front of her face. She gave no indication she could see him. He snapped his fingers trying to rouse her.

Her mouth opened just a bit and her tongue darted out to lick her lips, then her left hand reached out, feeling for him. He tried to take her fingers, but instead she slapped her palm onto his and something heavy settled into his hand.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Nicky asked and hated the fear in his words.

He clasped the object she placed in his hand. It was some sort of cold metal, but he could see nothing there. He stared at his empty hand for a moment then turned his eyes back to hers.

Her voice was sluggish, sounding almost like an old record playing back on a slow speed. “I’m sorry. You’ve got to trust me, Nicky. I need you to do exactly as I tell you. Tell–Me–You–Trust–Me.”

“I’ve always trusted you, baby. Now, tell me what’s happening.”

“Hide this. Hide it where even I can’t find it. If I know,” she paused and licked her lips again, the speed at which her eyes were darting back and forth increased. “If I know, they’ll know.
It must be kept safe. Promise?”

“I promise, baby.”

No sooner had the words escaped his lips than her eyes rolled back into her head, and she collapsed like a rag doll.

About the Author
When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper.  Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author.  Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write.  That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.

Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years.  She toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology until one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be.  Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning.   She's also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.

A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.

L'Oreal Paris BB Cream

I was so excited when SheSpeaks invited me into the L'Oreal Paris Magic BB Cream campaign. The Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream comes in 4 different shades, Fair, Light, Medium and Deep. I originally requested Light, but it turned out that shade was slightly too dark for my skin tone. SheSpeaks sent me Fair and it matched beautifully.

Price: $10.95
Size: 1 fl oz
Shades: Fair, Light, Medium, Deep
Where to buy: Mass food and drug retailers nationwide

The BB Cream says it will give a sheer coverage that looks like a natural bare skin finish while delivering built-in skincare benefits. It is supposed to prime and smooth, hide flaws, hydrates all day and corrects/evens skin. The 24 hour moisturization comes from being infused with Panthenol, Vitamin E and Glycerin.

When first applying the BB Cream I was slightly worried, the color it comes out as is a white tinged gray color. Once you move it around a little bit with your fingers it quickly turns colors.

This is when first squeezed out of the tube. You only need a little bit to cover a lot of skin.
After smoothing it out fully you can barely see it on my skin.

I applied L'Oreal Magic BB Cream first thing in the morning and took a picture of it that night. It held up flawlessly. I highly suggest this if you're wanting to try out BB Cream.
Disclosure: I received this product free from SheSpeaks and L'Oreal in exchange for an honest review.

Excerpt:
CHAPTER ONE:

BLACK SWAN FIELD TRAINING MANUAL Section I: Chapter 1, #1
The plural of vampire is vampire.

When the rush of activity subsided, he found himself alone with his own thoughts; a condition that was more than familiar since he had spent hundreds of years that way. Without the distraction of his friends' banter, since his proposed staff had left Edinburgh, he had begun to see his task not just as a job, but as a mission, one immersed in the duality of joy and gravity.

He had never considered himself to be impatient. Quite the contrary, everything he had ever pursued in earnest, from painting to music to writing, had depended upon patience. But, his cognizance of the enormity of the burden he had accepted had grown over the past months and he had turned to brooding about the time that was passing.

Every day that nothing was accomplished was a day when more people had their humanity taken from them, another day when vampire remained imprisoned in bodies infected with the foulest disease imaginable, and, also, another day when people died.

The project was moving painfully slowly. Everyone who had originally been assigned to work with Baka was gone: married, retired, whatever. Everyone except Heaven - who had turned out to be anything but.

The large work space, intended for several people, seemed deserted with him alone most of the time. He worked from early in the morning till late at night, challenging both the hours in the day and the fact that he was one excruciatingly short-handed task force leader.

When Heaven was present, her moods ran the range of a shallow bell curve from disagreeable to surly to sullen. He admitted that he had provoked her on their first meeting, for reasons that were a mystery to him. Something about her instantly put him on edge and made him feel anxious.

Even though that feeling persisted, he had attempted to make amends so that they could work together amicably. To no avail. She was prickly to the core, spurning every effort on his part to develop a rudimentary standard of civility. She behaved as if simple courtesy was more than she could manage which meant that "nice" was a goal way too distant.

He not only had to work with a person who detested his very presence, but, adding insult to injury, it seemed he couldn't shake an inexplicably strong attraction to her. He found himself staring at the curve of her cheek with her head bowed over work. Or the shine of her chestnut hair when she walked through a ray of light. Or the way her lips pursed whenever he gave her something to do. It was damned aggravating.

To make matters worse, he seemed to have lost interest in pursuing other women.

At exactly fifteen after five she double checked her wristwatch, closed an open folder, rose, pushed her arms into her sweater jacket, put her purse on her shoulder and, like every other day, walked out of the office without saying goodnight.

He perpetually struggled to concentrate because the space seemed to vibrate with a low level, but annoying irritation when she was there. It was stand to reason that he would be glad to see her gather her things and go, but, in fact, he hated it even more when she left. He heaved a big sigh. Fuck me.

Baka had been a person with a well-developed sense of morality, and a well-functioning conscience before he became a vampire. During the last hundred years of life as a vampire, having survived long enough to blessedly recover his understanding of right and wrong, he had voluntarily turned himself into The Order and served as "consultant" voluntarily consuming only artificial sustenance.

No. He had never been short on conscience. And that conscience was rubbing a hole in his brain telling him that it would be wrong to simply sit at a desk and plan a strategy on paper while, at the same time, doing nothing. So, keeping his own counsel, for better or worse, he determined that he would continue to work as a bureaucrat during the day, but would spend his nights - at least part of them - looking for others he might help back to the light.

He had worked with Monq at Jefferson Unit labs to develop a delivery solution. Taking a page from the methodology of the late Gautier Nibelung, they had decided that the safest and most effective approach would be dart gun. Each dart was outfitted with a tiny canister that would puncture on impact releasing a formula that was part stun and part cure. The proper dose of stun solution had been determined by tests on Baka himself. So he knew it worked. First hand. Obviously vampire must be incapacitated while the viral antidote works. As medicinal remedies go, it is fast working, but not instant. There is a delay of two to four hours between introduction to the system and complete reversal of the disease, depending upon the age and constitution of the individual.

His plan wasn't perfect. It depended on encountering one vampire at a time and extracting him, while paralyzed, without engaging other vampire. Tricky, but the alternative was waiting for a task force to be vetted, assembled, and trained. And waiting was the one thing he couldn't manage. Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing he'd ever done, but, hell, he'd had a long life.
To his advantage, he still had certain attributes that were extra human. Not like comic book heroes. More like human plus. No one knew if these benefits would fade away over time, but, for now, he was a little stronger, a little faster, and could see in the dark a little better than most people. All traits very useful for vampire hunting.
It just so happened that he found his assigned base of operations in prime territory that qualified as a vampire magnet on all counts. In Edinburgh's Old Town there was a large pedestrian population that came out at night and it was built on top of an underground system that was not utilized to any extent that would interfere with the needs of vampire. All this was literally in sight of his office - five minutes' walk away.

In a darkly poetic way, it was fitting that vampire would thrive in Edinburgh's underground city which consisted of a system of tunnels, caverns, and cells cut into the much softer sandstone under the rock that the above-ground Old Town is built upon. It's a place with grisly history where thousands of hapless poor lived in darkness, packed together without sanitation and with the vilest of criminals. Plague victims were not removed and buried or burned, but just sealed in their cells.
Modern day Ghost Tours offer a shallow excursion - shallow because individuals don't want to stay in the underground very long. Words like "creepy" are frequently used even by hard-core insensitives. That leaves miles of maze for a vampire haven.

Baka had been a vampire long enough to know all about how they think. He knew that the days of the Beltane festival would be a gorge fest for vampire. The Royal Mile, just over the heads of vampire living in the Underground, would be crowded with visitors to the city, visitors intent on celebration and revelry, danger being the last thing on their minds. It would be a blessing to vampire in the original sense of the word which was bloodletting; when, as a rite of passage, young pagans would stand in a pit under a grate where a bull was sacrificed and bathe in the blood that fell.
So Baka finished his day, went to dinner alone, and slowly savored every bite of his of actual food. Afterward, driven by a heartfelt desire to do some good in the world, he pulled on a pair of cargo pants and equipped the dozen pockets with two dart guns and as many canisters as he could carry without being slowed down. He descended the stairs to the main foyer wondering if, even partial redemption for a long life of misdeeds, is possible. The fact that he was not accountable for that infamous history should have given him some peace of absolution. But didn't. He said good evening to the doorman and headed out into the night.

Deb (aka Roller Deb) is an outcast that looks after her drug addict sister, Gennifer. The book starts with Deb saving her sister from a burning trailer and quickly escalates to other events that kept my on my toes. When Gennifer goes missing, Deb goes to rescue her from the drug dealer boyfriend Dave. In Deb's adventure to save Gennifer, she meets Harlow, a hunky troll that I couldn't get enough (more Harlow please!).

Harlow is drawn to Deb from the first second he lays eyes on her. When he finally catches up to Roller Deb he helps her find her way throughout the paranormal aspects of the world she never knew existed. I absolutely loved Harlow's character; he's the sexy, quiet guy that isn't afraid to get his hands dirty to save his woman. So pretty much he's the guy that every woman wants in their life.

I was so happy while reading because Red Tash mixed it up and had alternating points of view each chapter between Deb and Harlow. This allowed me to get a more well rounded view of the main characters and how both of them think versus how they act. Troll or Derby is one of the most unique books I've ever read. It effortlessly blends roller derby, romance, finding oneself, rescue and more in a tidy package. I found myself flipping the pages and saying "just one more chapter" so I could see what would happen next. If you enjoy paranormal books, Troll or Derby is a must buy.

Giveaway: Crazy, Stupid Love

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by my page for my giveaway.

I eagerly joined in the giveaway as soon as I saw TalkSupe post about it. The genre "New Adult" was actually a new term to me, I had to look it up and this is what I found.

"New Adult fiction bridges the gap between Young Adult and Adult genres. It typically features protagonists between the ages of 18 and 26." (-Goodreads)

I've read tons of these and never knew that they fell into that genre. Here is one that I loved and recommend, but you can of course pick out whatever you like.

Giveaway Prize: (1) $10 Amazon or B&N Gift Card (winner's choice)*
*If International winner, you may select up to $10 worth of book(s) from The Book Depository if it ships free to your country.

Spotlight & Giveaway: Fractured Paradise

Author: Alexa Bourne
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Format: Ebook
Length: 88 pages

Purchase: Amazon | Decadent Publishing | All Romance Ebooks | Barnes & Noble |

Book Description:
Technical analyst Rachel Grant arrives in Sunderland intent on tidying up her grandmother’s cottage, but the disaster she discovers requires more than a gentle sweep of a dust rag. Determined to please the most important person in her life, she trades her computer keyboard for a hammer and nails to make the repairs. She doesn’t count on the chilly reception from the locals who want to claim Nan’s home as their own.

Tour guide Aidan Camden wants to buy the cottage. He’s determined to acquire the property no matter how attractive he finds the current occupant. However, when tragedy strikes, throwing them both into a tailspin, he discovers he wants more than the house. He longs for the sexy American as well. Can Aidan put his own ghosts to rest in time to save the woman who’s claimed his heart?

Excerpt:
“A bit of a disappointment, I expect.” A rich, deep voice with a twinge of an English accent drifted from behind her.

She whirled around. Her hair whipped against her cheeks and made her wish for the hundredth time today she hadn’t packed all her hair clips.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”

The stranger paused beside the edge of the clearing, and her heart stuttered. Although no one would mistake him for a Hollywood leading man, this guy could command attention by stepping into a room. Or onto an island.

“That’s okay. You didn’t.” She permitted her gaze to wander over him.

He kept his hands stuffed into the front pockets of faded jeans. The wind tore at his gray long-sleeved shirt, outlining the contours of a well-defined chest. Unruly light brown hair touched his collar. High cheekbones accented his deep-set eyes. Not friendly eyes, but no threat lay behind them either, at least none she could uncover.

He pulled a hand from his pocket and held it out. “Aidan Camden of Dawson Tours, your neighbor from across the water.” He tipped his head toward the way he’d come.

Camden. His name sounded familiar, but why? She shook his hand with a hint of hesitation. “Rachel Grant.”

His fingers warmed her skin, his grip strong and confident. Awareness trailed along her arm. Then again, it could be the accent that made her skin tingle. British accents never failed to stir her emotions.

A trace of a smile danced on his lips. “Aye, the American.”

Huh. “You know of me?”

A low rumble of laughter slipped from his mouth, the sound relaxing her from deep within. “Word travels fast here. I saw you paddling your way out.”

Paddling? No, he’d seen her fighting with the oars. Until today, she’d never set foot on a boat, much less held an oar. But she would consider swimming across the Atlantic Ocean if it would make Nan happy.

“Tell me, Mr. Camden, are you in the habit of following foreigners?”

“No, lass, but you’re all the talk of the Roker area. The mighty Grant descendant, come to see about selling the family cottage.”

Selling?

Book Description:

Exiled for attempting to kill his sister’s lover, the last thing Seth needs is to be saddled with a human. But Seth can’t turn his back when he discovers Snow fleeing from her avaricious step-parents murder plot. Isolated in a cabin in the woods, Snow attempts seduction and Seth discovers even werewolves are vulnerable to passion’s temptation. Seth’s angry struggles against his desire drive him away, but his over-protective alpha nature won’t let him abandon a female in distress.

With Snow in danger again, can Seth overcome his prejudices in time to save Snow from her step-parents’ evil plan?

Excerpt:
Snow slipped and slid through the deepening drifts trying to catch the disappearing black wolf. For a moment he paused, a ghost wolf silhouetted on a rise. Her heart pounded. Was he waiting for her?

She forced her frozen feet to speed up, tucking her chin and racing toward the hill, but her slick soles betrayed her and she tumbled into a drift. When she looked up, he was gone.

“Wait!” she shouted. The gathering storm swallowed her words whole.

She lay on the ground while the wind drove tiny stinging flakes into her eyes and skin.

She deserved to die here in the snow. By stupidly following what she’d thought was a sign from her dead father she was lost, worse than before. At least earlier, she’d been on a trail. Now she was deep in the wilderness of the Grand Tetons, caught in a blizzard with the early night of winter on its way, her feet and hands slowly growing numb. The wolf hadn’t been her savior, sent from a dead caring father. Instead, he’d betrayed her.

Another howl carried over the rush of the blizzard.

The wolf was still out there.

She staggered to her feet, searching fruitlessly though the curtain of snow for a black shadow. Another howl had her head whipping to the side. Through the gloom of the gathering clouds and snow, instead of the wolf, she saw a light flickering in the trees.

She plowed into the underbrush, pushing through branches that seemed to claw and bite. Following the howls to the flickering light she spotted a tiny cabin, small glowing windows beckoning. She made it to the door and pounded with her last bit of strength.

No one came. Snow sagged against the hard wood. This was as far as she could go.

The door opened with sudden force, and she fell in, landing hard in a man’s open arms. Snow blinked up at the stern dark face of every LA’s director’s twenty-something dream pirate.

Golden eyes, black tousled hair and a build that every actor would kill for.

“Won’t you come in?” he asked, his voice deep and rough and surprised.

Every light in the small living room and open entryway was on, and more lights were on upstairs. She said the first words that tumbled out of her mouth, “Your lights are on, don’t you know we’re trying to save energy?”

An almost rusty sound rumbled deep in his chest, vibrating her body and surprising a smile out of her.

His teeth flashed. “I’m sorry. I’ll turn them off right away.”

He set her on her feet. “Would you like to come in and get warm?”

She took a good look at him, white button down shirt flared wide and unbuttoned showcasing a broad muscled chest.

Touchable black hair curled damply at his neck. His deep gold eyes gleamed secrets, and she suddenly realized she must have caught him naked in the shower.

Her cold cheeks burned.

He looked like a god and she became suddenly aware of her cold sodden clothes, her lank hair dripping snow onto his floor.

“I’m sorry, I’m making a mess. I must look awful.”

“Don’t be sorry.” He stared at her, his enigmatic eyes capturing hers, suspending time as he reached out a hand and stroked a clump of snow off of her hair “You’re gorgeous,” he almost whispered.

His hand trailed down her hair to flick snow on the stone pavers at her feet. Liquid heat pooled low in her pelvis.

“I…” she stuttered.

The wolf had done the same thing, stared at her with golden eyes, trapping her in its spell. She shook herself free and stepped back, unsettled and shaky with a strange desire.

Review: The Cowboy and the Princess

Reviewer: Melissa Mason
Title: The Cowboy and the Princess (Jubilee, Texas #2)
Author: Lori Wilde
Publisher: Avon
ISBN: 9780062047779
Release Date: July 2012
Genre/Sub-genre: Contemporary Romance
Year/Setting: Present day / Jubilee, TX
Overall Rating: 4.0
Sexual Content Rating: Subtle
Language (Profanity/Slang) Content Rating: Negligible
Violent Content Rating: Negligible
Lori's Website: http://www.loriwilde.com/

Princess Annabella of Monesta is hiding out in Texas to experience how everyday people live. The fantasy she has had all of her life is having a sexy cowboy to be her man. So her only mission when she runs away is to get a job and land a hunky cowboy. While I do live in Texas, I can honestly say it isn't all ranches like most books put it to be. Thankfully The Cowboy and the Princess didn't fully portray the entire state to be that way.

Brady Talmadge has 5 unbreakable rules in life. He quickly breaks the first 3 just by picking up Annie Coste (aka Princess Annabella of Monesta) near a truck stop. As a truck driver, Brady's life is lonely on the road, though he has friends scattered around the US because of it. He and Annie stop in Jubilee, TX to stay with some of Brady's friends and relax. Though I can't account for everyone's thoughts, I personally wouldn't bring a stranger to a close friend's house for several weeks. Annie quickly acclimates herself in their life by working for his friend's wife, while Brady works on healing horses.

The Cowboy and the Princess is an entertaining read that had me quickly reading so I could see what would happen next. The relationship between Brady and Annabella is tentative and sweet, though wraps up a little bit too pretty. All in all I loved The Cowboy and the Princess and look forward to reading more in the series.

Book Description:

Hot winter kisses to warm broken hearts….

Sick of tending to everyone else’s needs around the holidays, divorced barmaid and granny Sandra ferries it from London to Belfast. All she wants for Christmas is some peace with a romance story in front of a roaring fire in a remote Irish castle. What she gets is a most unexpected Christmas present from her friends at Bell’s—A 1Night Stand with a young Irishman.

Can she hack it in the real world of romance, or are life’s complications and treacherous snowstorms best left to the pages of a book?

Newly widowed Ardan Draighean owns Ballygalley castle. Once run as a hotel with his late wife, the stone building now serves as a home for him and his son. After hearing about Madame Eve’s matchmaking skills, he contacts her in search of the perfect match. Although much older than him—by fifteen years—Sandra is his ideal woman. He be damned if he’ll let a good story get in the way of his happy ever after with her.

Hot winter kisses are all this couple needs to stay warm this Christmas, but will the heat stay long after the magical season of mistletoe has finished?

Excerpt:

Digging out the treat the staff had bought her for her trip, all wrapped in hot hunks printed gift paper, she grinned. She’d promised to wait until she’d arrived at the castle before opening her surprise, but if not for the ferry delay and the bus strikes, she’d be snug by the fireplace already. By her calculations, present time had come and gone. She ripped that baby open and found a gift only good friends would think to buy her.

“An e-reader!”

They’d included a card, on the front of which a very sexy Santa hung up a fishnet stocking over a cartoon fireplace.

Now you’ll be able to carry those sexy stories around with you wherever you go, without your grandkids ever discovering those smutty covers! And to ensure your holiday is romantic, we’ve stocked your reader with books from your favorite series. One is about an Irish castle owner. Wink, wink. Oh, and talking of romance, tucked into the cover is another present to ensure your Christmas is one filled with joy.

Happy holidays! Your wee family from Bell’s.

Sandra thumbed around the cover and found what looked like an invitation. She opened the envelope and cringed. A 1Night Stand date. Hell’s bells. Had to be Devlin’s idea, the cheeky sod. Her co-worker always teased her about her reading habits at work. Yup. This trickery had Devlin written all over it. Insensitive bastard.

“Sandra? I’m from Ballygalley, here ta give ya a ride ta the castle. Bloody good job the barman recalled seeing ya. I’d never have found ya tucked way back here.”

A man loomed over her, his face shadowed by a knit hat pulled down to his temples; a hint of dark ginger peeked through the wool.

He rubbed his hands together then blew on them. “Let’s get a move on, shall we?”

Christmas lametta tinsel from above reflected across his smoldering, indigo glare. His brow furrowed and a glint of impatience flickered in his eyes. He rubbed at his stubbled face, and she could have sworn she heard the gentle sweep of thick whiskers brushing his palm. Her ex used to do the same thing when he was deep in thought. A tightening in her throat stalled her.

“Not got all night.” He pulled out her chair, nearly knocking her flying.

Amazon, B&N, ARe

Excerpt:
Chapter One

What in the hell was wrong with this picture? She was at a retreat, or what she liked to think of as a stupid idea someone with too much time had come up with to push her and her coworkers into learning to communicate better, get a feel for what each employee wanted to get out of the job, and figure out a way to provide better service…and some other crap she couldn’t remember at the moment.

Why in the world did she have to be there? She slapped her calf, killing off another mosquito. Darkness enveloped the group around the campfire, which made it easy for her glance over to the side and chug on the wine bottle, the one she had strategically placed next to the tree trunk she sat on. Everyone was so involved in “sharing” that they didn’t notice her getting drunk in the back, alone. And that was perfectly fine by her.

If only they would stop the incessant chatter already and send her off to bed, giving her some peace. But if she went to bed in her very lonely cabin, she wouldn’t be able to watch Max.

She glanced off to the side, as if admiring the scenery, and took another gulp of wine, the fruity flavor no longer bursting on her tongue but mixing with the lingering sweetness from her previous swig.

“Sabrina?” Eve’s sharp tone made her jerk to face the rest of the group. Normally she wouldn’t mind being called by her real name, though everyone outside of work knew her as Nina, but the way Eve said it, with so much severity, it made her want to wince.

“Hmm?”

The outdoors and nature did nothing to smooth out Eve’s harsh features. Nor did she look anywhere near friendly with the glare she directed toward Nina. Nina had to fight the urge to giggle every time Eve looked at her that way. Eve reminded her of Cruella de Vil.

“I asked if there was anything you’d like to add to the discussion?”

Nina’s gaze slid past Eve to lock on Max. His lips quirked, almost like he knew exactly what she’d been doing. Too bad he was so far away and there were all those people there, or she’d finally do something about the attraction that didn’t let her sleep. She was ready to finally give in to temptation and have her way with him. Screw the fact that they worked together. Or better said, she worked for him.

“No, Eve. I think what you have shared covers all the important points we’re here to discuss.” Lie. She had no clue what Eve had been saying.

Eve’s frown smoothed, and she lifted her chin. “Thank you, Sabrina.” She turned back to the others, effectively dismissing her. “As I was saying…”

Nina shut Eve’s low, droning voice out of her mind again and peeked down a passageway between the trees. There was enough light from the campsite, she could just make out her way down the path. Curiosity got a hold of her. She stood on wobbly legs and blinked. The group spun out of focus for a second.

“Sabrina?”

Nina took a few steps toward the dimly lit passage in the woods before she turned to Max’s enquiring voice. “I’m just going to the ladies room for a moment.” She pointed in the direction of the trees.

“Wait! That’s not…”

She ignored Max’s call to her and strolled off, breaking twigs and dead leaves with each step. Mosquitoes nibbled on her legs, each bite a constant reminder that she wished she was home in her bed, relaxing, or at least with someone that would help her fight the arousal shooting through her whenever she glanced at Max. But she’d broken up with her last boyfriend a while back. Since he didn’t get the message that she was no longer interested, she had stopped going to the places she might encounter him.

With each step she took, the sound of the river beckoned her in its direction. Her foot caught, and she tripped on a branch. She squealed as the earth tilted in front of her. Rocky ground rushed up to meet her face.

A strong pair of hands grabbed her by the waist and hauled her backward. “I got you.” Max’s deep voice caressed her ear while he helped her straighten.

Swooshing from water streaming nearby and crickets, somewhere in the vicinity, were the only sounds to be heard. Each noise drove home the fact she was outdoors and anyone could come by, not that she cared.

He shifted her in his arms until she faced him, her front leaning heavily into his muscled body. She sighed, glancing up into his shadowed face. Not that she needed light to know what his delectable square jaw looked like. Or how brilliant his blue eyes were. He leaned back into a thick tree trunk, pulling her with him.

Slow caresses trailed down her back, making her shiver and her blood thicken in her veins. With each intimate touch, her body throbbed. It was time to stop torturing herself. She couldn’t fight her body any longer.

“I think you’ve had a few too many, beautiful. Let’s get you back to your cabin.”

“No.” She lifted on the tips of her trainers, curled her hands around his neck, and pulled his head down to her. “Now stop torturing me, and kiss me, damn it.”

He groaned softly. “Sabrina, you’ve definitely had too much to drink. Sneaking in wine was not part of the agenda, you know.” He stroked down her spine to the curve of her ass and palmed her cheeks.

She huddled closer, cradling his erection in the juncture of her thighs. “I know it wasn’t, but Eve is boring. And it’s not that I’ve had too much too much to drink. I’ve just had enough, Max. I’m tired of fighting this. I want you.”

“Baby, you hate my guts.” He chuckled, lowered, and dropped a kiss on her nose.

Arousal gathered inside her, heating her blood by more degrees than she cared to admit. “No. I don’t hate you. I just don’t like that I want you so much.” She kissed his jaw, loving the sound of his sharp inhale when she licked his neck.

“Sabrina…”

Breaths mingled, gazes connected, and wet heat dripped from her sex. It was pure torture to have his sexy mouth so close and not get a taste. “Just kiss me, Max. I need you.”

Peaks of tension zigzagged inside her and made her shudder. He held her neck with one hand, tilted her head back, and swooped down for a kiss. Potent need, unlike any she’d ever felt before, possessed her. She whimpered into the sensual kiss. Each swipe of his tongue over hers added kindling to the explosions going off inside her. She raked her nails down his T-shirt, over his hard-muscled chest, and to his jeans. “Fuck me.”

He drew back from their kiss, ending the twining of their tongues. A scowl, deeply etched on his face, showed his disbelief at her words. But this time she wasn’t going with logic. She decided to give in to what her body desired. And it desired Max.

“Sabr—” One soft moan left his lips when she gripped his cock over his jeans.

“Max, this isn’t a game. I want to see you.” She panted, unbuckling his belt. “I want to touch you.” Excitement rushed through her, urging her to unzip his jeans. “I want to taste you…”

Review: The Guardian and the Dream Crawler

Daniel Smith is a normal, everyday high school student. The only difference between him and his friends is the fact that he is a wizard. Raised in the human world, Daniel doesn't know how to use magic (except accidentally causing things to float) and knows next to nothing about Eden (think alternate reality that wizards live in). Daniel's life starts getting a little crazy and only him and his friends can figure it out and fix everything.

SL Lewis managed to make the story come to life. I honestly felt like I was in the book watching it act out, rather than just reading. Daniel's daily interactions in high school seemed true to life, he has friends, deals with bullies, strange teachers, etc. The story builds as odd things continue to happen and more and more details come to light about the wizard world. All in all The Guardian and the Dream Crawler was a delight to read and I recommend it.

Disclosure: I received a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

WoW 46 - The Water Witch

Title: The Water Witch
Author: Juliet Dark
Release Date: 2/12/13

Perfect for fans of Deborah Harkness and Elizabeth Kostova, The Water Watch is a breathtakingly sexy and atmospheric new novel of ancient folklore, passionate love, and thrilling magic.

After casting out a dark spirit, Callie McFay, a professor of gothic literature, has at last restored a semblance of calm to her rambling Victorian house. But in the nearby thicket of the honeysuckle forest, and in the currents of the rushing Undine stream, more trouble is stirring. . . .

The enchanted town of Fairwick’s dazzling mix of mythical creatures has come under siege from the Grove: a sinister group of witches determined to banish the fey back to their ancestral land. With factions turning on one another, all are cruelly forced to take sides. Callie’s grandmother, a prominent Grove member, demands her granddaughter’s compliance, but half-witch/half-fey Callie can hardly betray her friends and colleagues at the college. To stave off disaster, Callie enlists Duncan Laird, an alluring seductive academic who cultivates her vast magical potential, but to what end? Deeply conflicted, Callie struggles to save her beloved Fairwick, dangerously pushing her extraordinary powers to the limit—risking all, even the needs of her own passionate heart.

Why I am waiting:
I'll be honest, I love the D.Harkness books, and this mentions it is perfect for those fans. While I won't be buying this book, I will probably see if the library has it just in case it doesn't meet my expectations.

Number of pages: 159

Book Description:
A tangled web of love, magic, and seduction, this retelling of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel is not your mama’s fairy tale.

Elle has lived in solitude, high in the tower, her entire life. When Emmett appears on her balcony, poisoned from the vicious Witch Weed and close to death, she knows she must save him at all costs. Her desire for him becomes unbearable, and when she realizes that he has also stolen her heart, she must decide—risk it all to be with him or let him walk away, missing her only chance at true love.

However, Elle's time is short and her life is in danger. Despina, an Enchantress posing as Elle's mother, needs the magic that lives in Elle in order to survive. Can Elle save Emmett, embrace the love that awaits her, and survive her mother’s dark intentions before it is too late?

Excerpt:

As Emmett lay on the bed, watching Rapunzelle weave the tale, he found himself struggling with an inner conflict. He knew that magic once ruled the lands. Peppered throughout the history books were tales of powerful wizards and evil witches who had become consumed by their lust for power over all of mankind. They were said to be the cause of the War of the Witches, which had turned into a battle that, ironically, had ended the rule of magic once and for all. Some creatures of magic still existed, of course. Fairies and Ogres were spotted from time to time in darker corners of the woods. A rock troll still lived up in the mountains in a cave hidden by windy paths and thorn bushes. Even the midwives were gifted healers. It was the fact that Emmett’s experience of climbing a poisoned vine could be real, rather than brought on by hallucinations from tainted faerie water, that bothered him.

His thoughts were interrupted by the feeling of Rapunzelle’s hand on his. He looked up to see her eyes fixed on his with intimidating intensity. She lifted his hand from where it had been lying on the bed and turned it so that his palm faced up. When Emmett looked down to see his hand in hers, his heart skipped a beat. The palm of his hand was covered in red, angry wounds that were in the midst of healing. Some of the deeper cuts had thread sewn through them, keeping them closed, while others were slick with what appeared to be a salve of sorts. Seeing the severity of the wounds caused pain to surge through Emmett’s hands, and sweat began to bead on his forehead.

“Emmett?”

He pulled his eyes from the wounds and found hers still fixed on him.

“You asked me where you are. I do not know why or how you found me, but your memories are not false. You did climb my tower. I found you on the balcony, covered in blood from your wounds and succumbing to the effects of the poison from the Witch Weed that protects me. I brought you inside so that I could heal you, but you’ve been asleep for several days, and I was starting to think that I’d been too late.”

“Why would you attempt to heal me if you have Witch Weed to keep intruders out?”

A sweet smile crossed Rapunzelle’s lips as she reached up and ran her fingers through Emmett’s hair, brushing it back from his forehead.

“Even a pure-hearted man would never survive the climb. He would have succumbed to the poison and fallen to his death not even halfway up. I figured that there must be a reason that you were able to make it all the way to the top, and it is not my place to interfere with your life path. Healing you seemed to be the only true option.”

A whispered “thank you” was all he could manage, but she didn’t seem to mind.

“I’ve made a stew for us, hoping that you would awake soon and be hungry. Let me get you some, and we’ll start working on getting your strength back.”

Emmett watched as Rapunzelle rushed out of the door to the bedroom, her black braid following behind her. He slowly looked around the room, taking it in with newfound awe. The walls were rounded and made from the same alabaster brick he had been drawn to in the meadow. There was no window, but the roof was fashioned to allow sunlight to fill the space. The room was decorated with paintings of flowers and mountain scenes, and books cluttered the tops of furniture. In the corner, only half-hidden behind a sheer curtain, he saw a copper tub big enough to lie in while bathing. Off to the side behind the tub, he could see a door that opened just enough to reveal a room filled with clothing. The bed sat in the center of the room and was large enough that two of him could comfortably fit side by side on it. It was covered in lush, deep-purple blankets and countless pillows that were scented with jasmine and a spice he was unfamiliar with.

If there had been a choice of being healed in a sterile nursemaid’s wing of the palace or high above the ground in Rapunzelle’s bedroom, sealed away from the world below, he would choose her room every time. Sounds of her preparing his meal drifted in through the bedroom door, and Emmett found himself comforted by it. He closed his eyes and listened as he fell asleep.

His mind was quickly filled with visions of Rapunzelle. She was lying down on the bed beside Emmett, face propped up in the palm of her hand as she stared with longing into his eyes. Her long black hair, free from its restrictive braid, flowed out behind her like black waves. Her other hand reached up, and he felt her fingers trail from his cheek, down his neck, and finally rest on his chest. His heartbeat quickened at the feel of her touch. Her hands were smooth and soft and her touch, though alive with intent, was gentle. She ran her fingers through the little curls of hair on his chest and smiled when she looked down to see his arousal

About the Author:
There was never a day in Tasha’s life when she wasn’t creating new worlds, or characters, or story lines. Even as a little girl, she was often locked away in her grandfather’s office drawing, cutting, pasting, and writing short stories to give to her mom. Using all methods, crayons, pens and pencils, typewriters, and word processors, her favorite was the typewriter. The clickity-clack sound that the keys made as she wrote her stories ignited excitement, and at the young age of eight, she knew she wanted to grow up and be a writer.

Tasha thanks her grandma for her love of books. Her grandma’s home was in all aspects a library with hundreds and hundreds of books on the shelves, all of which Tasha was allowed to read regardless of her age. With the exception of the typical children’s faerie tales, Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King was the first fantasy novel Tasha had read, and she was hooked. The freedom to create a world without having to follow traditional rules was the most amazing thing ever! Of course, as she grew and decided that boys were no longer gross and infected with cooties, but rather cute and tempting, she turned to romance. Her favorite pastime became writing short stories for her friends and featuring them as the heroine and their crushes as the love interest. When one of the moms found a story and mistook it for a real event, Tasha knew writing truly was her calling.

Though it took a little longer than she had hoped to achieve her dream, the waiting was well worth it.
