WoW [34] Darkness Hunts by Keri Arthur

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Find out more information at their blog http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/.

Title: Darkness Hunts
Author: Keri Arthur
Series: Dark Angels #4
Release Date: November 6th 2012

Risa Jones, half-Aedh/half-werewolf, can enter the realm between life and death. She can speak to the dying and the dead, and she can see the Reapers, collectors of souls. What she can not yet see is the identity of a stranger murdering women and draining their blood. Now Risa must summon her gifts to find him, even if it means putting her own life in danger. But Risa needn’t look far. The killer knows who she is.

He tells her his victims are infected by darkness and he’s fated to destroy them. Fascinated by Risa, he engages her in a sinister game: the chance to save the life of his next victim by deciphering his series of clues. In a race against time, she enlists the help of the Reaper Azriel.

But as an attraction between them grows, so does the fear that the stranger’s motives are only part of a larger, more dangerous scheme—one that has lured Risa and Azriel into the dark.

Why I'm waiting:
I was so sad to see the Riley Jenson series end, but so excited when I heard about the spin off series with Risa. Her powers are interesting and way different from most of the paranormal books out there. They have all the kick butt action/fighting that was in the Riley Jenson series so I'm a happy girl.

What book are you eagerly waiting for?

Title: A Trace of Moonlight
Author: Allison Pang

Drinking from the waters of lethe and offering herself up as Faerie’s sacrificial Tithe . . . these just might be the least of Abby Sinclair’s problems. Abby’s pact with a daemon—whether or not she remembers making it—is binding, so she’d better count herself lucky that (in the words of a daemon who knows better) there’s nearly always a loophole. But her friends’ reckless attempts to free her, well intentioned though they may be, set off a disastrous chain of events. In no time at all, Abby turns her incubus lover mortal, then gets herself killed, cursed, and married to an elven prince whose mother wants her dead. On top of everything else, she’s lost the Key to the CrossRoads to her mortal enemy, who promptly uses his restored power to wreak havoc on the OtherWorld and put its very existence in jeopardy. Only one person can make things right again, but to find her, Abby must place her trust in allies of mixed loyalties, and conquer her nightmares once and for all.

Word and Breath is set in a world where few people read and the government is like Big Brother. Some of the people that are able to read are employed by the Union to translate any suspicious messages. The organization that is sending coded messages is the Front who encourages free thinking and personal liberties.

Riana Cole lives a normal life, she goes to work as a reader and then goes home to take care of her sister Jannie. Her life changes quickly when her sister Jannie is kidnapped. After being exposed to the Front, Riana has no choice but accept their help. This puts her in a lot of dangerous situations and kept me on my toes while reading. I could see how her beliefs were changing as I was reading. It was refreshing, since most authors don't expose the readers to the change, they just sort of appear which annoys me. There is a slight love triangle in the book, but not really. Riana meets a Soul-Breather and comes to care and trust him. On the other hand she also cares for an old friend, and I was hoping they would be together when he was first introduced. All in all, Word and Breath is a great book that kept me on my toes and wondering who-dun-it.

After reading Y's Punishment I knew I needed more books from the Randy's Diner series. K's Awakening is a steamy novella that will give you a taste of the series and will make you want to come back to Randys. Oh and did I mention that it is free on Smashwords?

Karen, a premed student needs money to pay for tuition. She gets a job at Randy's Diner, where the customers can do almost anything to the servers. On her first day she is relieved to get a slightly prim looking young woman as her first customer. Not really expecting it, Amy awakens urges in Karen that she can't deny. You will be hooked and probably won't be able to think of grapes the same way again after reading this book.

I think everyone knows that I'm Anya Breton's fan girl. She has an awesome writing style that always draws me in. If you haven't read one of her books before I highly suggest her work.

WoW [33] Shadow Rising by Yasmine Galenorn

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Find out more information at their blog http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/.

Title: Shadow Rising
Author: Yasmine Galenorn
Series: Otherworld #12
Release Date: October 30th 2012

We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch with three sexy husbands. My sister Delilah is a two-faced werecat and Death Maiden. And me? I’m Menolly, a jian-tu turned vampire in love with a wildly hot werepuma. Unfortunately, life is about to get very, very nasty…

Nerissa and I can’t decide on what we want to do for our promise ceremony and we’re bickering like an old married couple. My sisters and I head to Otherworld for a meeting with Queen Asteria. Once there, we discover that Shadow Wing has dispatched Telazhar—a malevolent necromancer—to reignite the Scorching Wars. And as soon as we return back home, we find Gulakah, the Lord of Ghosts, waging a battle to control the magical beings over Earthside. Caught between two terrible enemies in a battle spanning two worlds, we can only hope we’re in time to stop all-out annihilation.

Why I'm waiting:
I'm a fangirl of pretty much all of Yasmine Galenorn's books. I love her writing style and how the story actually evolves on each book. I can't wait to see what happens in Shadow Rising.

What book are you eagerly waiting for?

Author: Jacquelyn Frank

From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes this first book in The World of the Nightwalkers—an exciting and sensual new spin-off series in which the Bodywalkers, an ancient race of the night, battles the evil forces who prey on them.

The unexpected happens in an instant. On her way to work, secretary Docia Waverley hurtles into a crashing crossroads, and she quickly begins to suspect that things will never be the same. Then, when a tall, blond, muscular stranger intervenes on her behalf, telling her it is his duty to protect her at all cost, what is just a feeling turns to proof positive. That is, as long as Docia’s savior doesn’t turn out to be a crazed kidnapper.

When Ram finds Docia, he has no doubt that she is his queen. But as this golden warrior sweeps in to protect her, he feels something more than body heat every time they touch. He is overwhelmed by a searing connection that goes deep into the twin souls inside him. A desire rises in him that is forbidden—this woman is his queen, the mate of his king, his leader, his best friend. And yet Docia is so vulnerable and attractive that she awakens a hunger in Ram that is undeniable, a carnal craving he cannot yield to . . . not without risking the very survival of the Bodywalkers.

Selene always felt like she didn’t belong, whether it be her family or school mates. She uses art as a channel, and is a bartender on the side at night. During a jog one evening, Selene is accosted and a mystery man comes to her rescue. She quickly discovers that there is a side to herself that she never knew about. While healing she meets Lucian and stays at his house to recuperate. A love connection forms but there are a lot of bumps in the road.

There is a love triangle in this book, but it doesn’t last very long so if it isn’t your cup of tea you should be fine. The relationship between Selene and Lucian seemed slightly fast, but it was a relatively short book. I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read more of Karoleen Vry Brucks’ work. I suggest this book if you enjoy paranormal books that aren’t like all the others out there.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for free from the author for an honest review.

Angel's Ink

Angel's Ink - Jocelynn Drake
Buyer beware . . .

Looking for a tattoo—and maybe a little something extra: a burst of good luck, a dollop of true love, or even a hex on an ex? Head to the quiet and mysterious Gage, the best skin artist in town. Using unique potions—a blend of extraordinary ingredients and special inks—to etch the right symbol, he can fulfill any heart's desire. But in a place like Low Town, where elves, faeries, trolls, werewolves, and vampires happily walk among humanity, everything has its price.

No one knows that better than Gage. Turning his back on his own kind, he left the magical Ivory Tower where cruel witches and warlocks rule, a decision that cost him the right to practice magic. And if he disobeys, his punishment—execution—will be swift.

Though he's tried to fly under the radar, Gage can't hide from powerful warlocks who want him dead—or the secrets of his own past. But with the help of his friends, Trixie, a gorgeous elf who hides her true identity, and a hulking troll named Bronx, Gage might just make it through this enchanted world alive.

Beta
Beta - Rachel Cohn
Elysia is created in a laboratory, born as a sixteen-year-old girl, an empty vessel with no life experience to draw from. She is a Beta, an experimental model of a teenage clone. She was replicated from another teenage girl, who had to die in order for Elysia to exist.
Elysia's purpose is to serve the inhabitants of Demesne, an island paradise for the wealthiest people on earth. Everything about Demesne is bioengineered for perfection. Even the air induces a strange, euphoric high, which only the island's workers--soulless clones like Elysia--are immune to.
At first, Elysia's life is idyllic and pampered. But she soon sees that Demesne's human residents, who should want for nothing, yearn. But for what, exactly? She also comes to realize that beneath the island's flawless exterior, there is an under-current of discontent among Demesne's worker clones. She knows she is soulless and cannot feel and should not care--so why are overpowering sensations cloud-ing Elysia's mind?
If anyone discovers that Elysia isn't the unfeeling clone she must pretend to be, she will suffer a fate too terrible to imagine. When her one chance at happi-ness is ripped away with breathtaking cruelty, emotions she's always had but never understood are unleashed. As rage, terror, and desire threaten to overwhelm her, Elysia must find the will to survive.
The first in a dazzlingly original science fiction series from best-selling author Rachel Cohn, "Beta "is a haunting, unforgettable story of courage and love in a cor-rupted world.

The Shadow Society
The Shadow Society - Marie Rutkoski
Darcy Jones doesn’t remember anything before the day she was abandoned as a child outside a Chicago firehouse. She has never really belonged anywhere—but she couldn’t have guessed that she comes from an alternate world where the Great Chicago Fire didn’t happen and deadly creatures called Shades terrorize the human population.

Memories begin to haunt Darcy when a new boy arrives at her high school, and he makes her feel both desire and desired in a way she hadn’t thought possible. But Conn’s interest in her is confusing. It doesn’t line up with the way he first looked at her.

As if she were his enemy.

When Conn betrays Darcy, she realizes that she can’t rely on anything—not herself, not the laws of nature, and certainly not him. Darcy decides to infiltrate the Shadow Society and uncover the Shades’ latest terrorist plot. What she finds out will change her world forever . . .

In this smart, compulsively readable novel, master storyteller Marie Rutkoski has crafted an utterly original world, characters you won’t soon forget, and a tale full of intrigue and suspense.

Unchained
Unchained - J. Lynn
Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

Review: Goddess of Love

PhotobucketTitle: Goddess of Love
Author: P.C. Cast
Series: Goddess Summoning #5
Buy Link: Amazon, B&N
Connect: Blog, Facebook, Website
Photobucket

I found the Goddess Summoning series last year and haven't been disappointed with any of the books yet. Goddess of Love was a light, entertaining read that fulfilled my need for romance with mythology.

Venus, the Goddess of Love isn't satisfied with her marriage of convenience. After a talk with her gal-pal Persephone about the wonderful kingdom of Tulsa she tags along on a shopping spree. Little did she expect to hear a mousy, awkward woman summoning the Goddess of Love for help.

Pea Chamberlain lusts after Griffin, the sexy fireman that rescued her dog from a tree. Her issue is she seems to embarrass herself every time he is around. One of the scenes had me laughing yet cringing on Pea's behalf.

"The huge phallus rolled out of the bag to land, vibrating cheerfully, at the feet of a man who was so exceptionally handsome that Venus wondered that she hadn't noticed him earlier."

Goddess of Love is like the other books in this series, there are 4 main characters and it's basically two romance stories mixed into one. Each story has it's own twist, so the series is actually decent and doesn't seem repetitive. This book seems to have a lot more humor than the others, so I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys mythology mixed in their romance.

Working as the receptionist at EnClo Corp isn't one of them, but she needs the paycheck, and she amuses herself by speculating what the mysterious company actually does. She's even more intrigued when the owner arrives, bringing with him a very attractive man named Burke.

Burke's job is more deadly than dead-end: as head henchman for Gina's boss, aka supervillain Static, he makes sure his boss doesn't end up in jail—or worse. But Static's latest scheme is way more legitimate than either of them are used to. This time they have a real office—with a smart, sexy receptionist.

Unfortunately, Gina isn't the only one curious about EnClo Corp's business. When a superhero starts sniffing around, he proves to be less than heroic, and the lines between good and evil blur. Only Gina and Burke can foil his investigation...provided they can keep their hands off each other long enough to save the day.

Review: Immortal Rider

Photobucket
Title: Immortal Rider
Author: Larissa Ione
Series: Lords of Deliverance #2
Contact: Facebook, Twitter, Website
Photobucket

After loving Eternal Rider I knew that I had to get my hands on book two, Immortal Rider. I stand by my statement that you do not need to read the Demonica series to understand what is going on. But you will need to read Eternal Rider to fully comprehend this book.

The book started out kind of slow, possibly because I didn't really like the main character in the first part of the book. The series is about the four horsemen, Ares (War), Limos (Famine), Thanatos (Death), and Reseph (Pestilence). Immortal Rider is Limos' story where she is trying to keep secrets hidden and must face the truth when they come to light.

Limos' character is feminine, yet not one you want to cross. She can knock a guy off his feet without even thinking. Arik, a soldier for the RX-R attends Limos' party and can't help his attraction to her. Little did he know a kiss would send him to Hell to be tortured just so Satan could attempt to get his fiancee back.

There are tons of obstacles for Limos and Arik throughout the story. This caused the book to be a very fast read, and kept my attention. The secondary characters had interesting things happen so now I cannot wait to get my hands on book three, Lethal Rider.
