Jenny Ray (aka Temptress) has the ability to steal a superhero's powers with just a kiss. She freelances for the Vegas police, and is called if there are any supers acting out of line. On a mission at a club to detain Steel, a superhero with super strength, Jenny's cover is blown by a member of the group of superheros he belongs to.

Thinktank, the leader of M10 isn't easily fooled since his super power is all about the mind. He is able to read thoughts, see statistics/ratios at a glance, and several other perks. Temptress does the only thing she can do, kiss them both to steal their powers and figure out the rest later. The book revolves around Jenny trying to give Thinktank his powers back and also keeping Vegas safe from supers misusing their abilities.

I cannot tell you how much I loved this book! Temptress is an amazing debut novel that I could not put down. The characters kept my interest, and the plot sucked me in from the start. If you are a Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance reader then I highly recommend this book.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Author: Lola Dodge

Kiss your powers goodbye.

Kidnapping a super-powered suspected felon from a Vegas bachelor party is another day at the office for Jenny Ray, alias Temptress. With one kiss, any naughty supe’s powers are hers. Except this time she’s caught by her mark’s boss, who’s no ordinary superhero.

It’s Thinktank, leader of the toughest hero crew around. One destroyed men’s room and near-toilet-drowning later, Jenny’s forced to steal an innocent hero’s powers.

For a super brain, Tank’s feeling pretty idiotic. First, he let Jenny close enough to get to him. Second, he’s helpless against the tide of desire that rises in him every time he kisses her. Which he’s doing a lot, since she’s trying to give him back his power—only it’s not working. As he shadows her on her various freelance casino security jobs, he realizes she’s no she-demon—she’s a time bomb. Her acquired powers are shredding her, body and soul.

As they give in to desire, a shadowy figure from Jenny’s past surfaces with a kidnapping plan of his own. Jenny will do anything—even level Las Vegas—to rescue the man she loves. But there may not be anything left of her when the dust settles.

Review: Rogue Rider

Title: Rogue Rider
Author: Larissa Ione
Series: Lords of Deliverance #4
Photobucket

Jillian Cardiff was out in a blizzard when she spotted a naked man unconscious in the snow. Quickly she rescued him and took him back to her farm to recover. When Reseph woke up he had no memory of who or what he was besides a vague idea that Reseph is his name. Not sure what to do Jillian lets him stay to recover and they quickly fall into an easy relationship. I think Jillian might be a little bit too trusting, she doesn't seem to doubt his character even though she doesn't know his past. That doesn't stop everyone in town from gossiping about Jillian's neighbors being murdered and the only stranger in town being Reseph.

The sexual tension between Jillian and Reseph was freaking hot and I couldn't wait to see where their relationship went. The emotional torment Reseph faced was sad but understandable since he did so many evil deeds while he was Pestilence in the previous books. Jillian is the perfect match for Reseph, and to be honest this is my favorite book in the series so far.

My main question while reading was "Will Jillian be able to handle knowing exactly what damage/destruction Reseph caused?". Larissa Ione handled the plot beautifully, and I wasn't let down. Don't even get me started on the little twists she throws in just when I thought I had everything figured out. Rogue Rider is a must read, if you haven't picked up the series yet you are missing out.

WoW [37] Cold Days - Jim Butcher

Title: Cold Days
Author: Jim Butcher
Series: The Dresden Files #14

HARRY DRESDEN LIVES!!!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad. Because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard.

He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill.

Guess which Mab wants first?

Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.

Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own…

His soul.

Title: Forbidden

Series: The World of Nightwalkers #1

Docia Waverley was at the wrong place at the wrong time. While crossing an intersection near a bridge she narrowly avoids being hit by a car. What the person in the car didn't miss was leaning out the window to push her off the bridge so Docia would fall onto the rocks below. Dying, her spirit enters a limbo of sorts (aka the Ether) and is greeted by a woman and man. The woman gives Docia a choice to continue living or die. The only hitch is if she chooses to live she will not be 100% herself anymore, the Egyptian woman will be in her body as well. As I think almost everyone would chose, Docia decides to live.

Healing under her brother's smothering care Docia is getting a major case of cabin fever. In an attempt to get some alone time to relax she sends him on a errand only to be "kidnapped" by a sexy man. She is taken to a house to heal and be protected with several strangers that are more than meets the eye. Everyone is saying she is the Queen they have been waiting for which is kind of creepy in my opinion, but it didn't seem to bother Docia much. Ram, the guy that "kidnapped" her is hunky and hard to resist. I could quickly see sparks fly and hoped their relationship would work out as the book progressed.

The perspective goes back and forth between Jackson and Docia while reading. Jackson is trying to find Docia and rescue her, while Docia is coping with a hunky man and people chasing her. All in all Forbidden is a quick read that brings something new to the table. I recommend this book if you are looking for something a little bit different in the paranormal world.

WoW [35] Dexter's Debut by Jeff Lindsay

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Find out more information at their blog http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/.

Title: Dexter's Debut
Author: Jeff Lindsay
Series: Dexter #7
Release Date: August 29th 2013

Global bestseller Dexter returns in another wickedly twisted tale of Miami lowlife.

Cop shows are bringing revenue to Miami and Dexter Morgan is asked to be an advisor for the filming of a new show on top of his regular job as Miami PD's blood-spatter analyst. But things take a distinctly dark turn when the leading actress on the show keels over from a very real bullet on set in front of him. With the press going crazy that the murder took place under the very nose of Miami's finest, Dexter and Debs are under pressure to wrap the case. When their lead suspect turns up dead, and then Rita and Cody are found bound, gagged and barely alive, Dexter knows he's well and truly met his match...

Why I'm waiting:
I'll admit it, I'm addicted to the Dexter series. I never miss an episode and love reading the books since they are completely different from the TV series.

Review: Trace of Moonlight

Title: A Trace of Moonlight
Author: Allison Pang
Series: Abby Sinclair #3
Genre: Urban Fantasy

A Trace of Moonlight is book three in the Abby Sinclair series. It picks up shortly after A Sliver of Shadow. Abby has lost her memory after drinking from the waters of lethe and doesn't know what is going on. Talivar is taking care of Abby, and trying to find a way to recover her memory and save her from being the Tithe.

On a stroll in the garden Abby sees Maurice who is being held in Faerie for his actions in the last book. He escapes with something very important, and mortally injures someone, which causes a ton of issues for everyone. After dealing with all the hubbub, the Queen still needs Abby to be the Tithe, a human sacrifice to keep the peace between the demons and Faerie. To keep Abby in place she places a geas on her so she cannot go to the CrossRoads. This rubs Talivar the wrong way, so he enacts a plan to ensure their escape from under the Queen's thumb.

A good portion of the book revolves around the Eildon tree, which basically holds the CrossRoads together. After a fight near the tree it's a race against the clock to find Maurice and save the CrossRoads. Abby is left to make hard decisions, and save multiple lives.

The relationship aspect of the book is pretty much the same as in book two. There is a love triangle, and I still wasn't sure who I wanted Abby to wind up with. I could tell that Talivar cares for Abby and she cares for him, but I just wasn't sure. Brystion on the other hand was in this book more and I leaned his way slightly.

A Trace of Moonlight is an fast read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love that Abby doesn't always make the wisest decisions, and her character isn't perfect in every way. I highly recommend this series, if you haven't read Allison Pang's work yet you are missing out.

Author Bio:
A marine biologist in a former life, Allison Pang turned to a life of crime to finance her wild spending habits and need to collect Faberge eggs. A cat thief of notable repute, she spends her days sleeping and nights scaling walls and wooing dancing boys….Well, at least the marine biology part is true. But she was taloned by a hawk once.  She also loves Hello Kitty, sparkly shoes, and gorgeous violinists.

She spends her days in Northern Virginia working as a cube grunt and her nights waiting on her kids and cats, punctuated by the occasional husbandly serenade. Sometimes she even manages to write. Mostly she just makes it up as she goes.
