Courting Darkness

Book: Courting Darkness
Author: Yasmine Galenorn
Rating: 5/5

I had the pleasure of winning an advanced reading copy of Courting Darkness. This is the 10th book in the series and I found it somewhat better than the rest. Don't get me wrong, I think the entire series is wonderful. This book just shows me that an author with an extended series can actually keep it interesting and not go downhill after the first few books, like some authors out there which I will not name.

This book is a must read if you have enjoyed the Otherworld series. It is an extremely fast read that you will not want to put down. Camille is facing Hyto, Smoky's father in this novel. I would not call this book easy going, it is rather dark. Some people will not enjoy this book because of the content. I found that darkness a necessary part of Camille's story, and I saw her character grow both emotionally as well as magically. You will get insight on the dragon culture, since it does revolve around Hyto being after Camille. I really can't say much more without giving away things, so I will just tell you now to go purchase this book when it comes out!

I would suggest reading Iris's story before reading Courting Darkness. Parts of Iris's story are mentioned a few times in this book, but it does not require reading it to fully understand.

Iris's story is located in the book Hexed, it is named Ice Shards, the book also includes 3 other novellas from other authors.

Courting Darkness is scheduled to be released November 1, 2011.

Bone Magic

Title: Bone Magic
Author: Yasmine Galenorn
Rating: 4/5

Goodreads synopsis:
"Another equinox is here, and life's getting more tumultuous for the D'Artigo sisters. Smoky, the dragon of Camille's dreams, must choose between his family and her. Plus, the sisters can't locate the new demon general in town. And Camille's summoned to Otherworld, thinking she'll reunite with her long-lost soul mate Trillian. But once there, she must undergo a drastic ritual that will forever change her and those she loves."

My Review:
Camille faces a lot of hard decisions and changes in this book. There are new opponents to be dealt with, and you wonder how the sisters and their entourage are going to handle everything. You get to meet up with a few of the characters from previous books, and of course meet new ones. Smoky has not been telling Camille the whole truth, and you wonder if he is going to remain by her side. Trillian is back in the picture and has faced hardships from the war. Will he accept that Camille married Smoky and Morio? While Camille visits Otherworld she has to choose if she will do something life changing. Not only is that a big plot point, the triple threat comes to Camille with a proposition that she is not sure if she should refuse. I could hardly put this book down, and this was a re-read from the past. Major kudos to Yasmine Galenorn for writing such a great series.

September 2011 Birchbox

I had an issue with my Birchbox subscription this month. It was the 13th and I had not received an email saying my box had shipped. I checked their website and it did not even show a September box. I contacted Birchbox via twitter and email and they ignored both. I contacted again the next day and got immediate help and they shipped my box out right then. Though yes, I was disappointed in their shipping this month I love the products they sent.

1. Truth Art Beauty | Face Nourish - Birchbox Blend
*DIY skincare: We mix and matched our favorite ingredients for this custom face oil, which nourishes with organic argan, pumpkin seed, and geranium oils.
*The smell is decent, it does not leave my skin oily which I was concerned about since it is an oil. It has been keeping my face moisturized and smooth and silky. So far I love this product and I am really happy I received it in my box.

2. Jouer | Lip Enhancer
*Why settle for plain 'ol lip balm when you can hydrate, plump, and condition all in one go? Right, we thought so.
*This is amazing. It leaves my lips hydrated, and so soft. I am going to buy the full size asap!

3. Jurlique | Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer
*A must for any urban adventure, Jurlique's sanitizer neutralizes bacteria with Australian mint and hydrates with safflower oil.
*It smells okay, it is a minty and herb smelling hand sanitizer. I really did not notice a hydration effect with this, so it basically is a herb-y/minty smelling hand sanitizer.

4. Incoco | Nail Polish Applique
*We all have a wild side. Eye-catching nail strips are the latest trend - try them on your fingers or toes.
*I am actually impressed with these nail strips. As long as you follow the directions they are very easy to apply and I had no issues. I have had these on for a week and have not noticed a single chip, it looks like I just put them on. See below picture for my nails.

5. Extra: Birchbox Friendship Bracelet.
*Little pink string bracelet with a silver BirchBox charm. It is cute, though I don't see myself wearing it daily.

One Grave at a Time

Title: One Grave at a Time
Author: Jeaniene Frost
My Rating: 4/5

Amazon Synopsis:
"Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans' voodoo queen just keeps on giving-leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit."

My Review:
Cat and Bones are back again for another intense adventure. This book takes place a few months after the last book. Cat still has the powers from the voodoo queen, you get to see how she handles so many ghosts being attracted to her. There is also the matter of taking care of a ghost that is a killer. How does one kill a being that isn't in the flesh?

Not only that but there is a new addition to Cat's old team. Don is still a ghost and hanging around. Sadly this installment in the series does not have Vlad, though it does have Spade, Denise, Ian, and even Cat's mother. The book sort of left me feeling incomplete, like the story was not fully wrapped up. Hopefully the next book will answer my questions.
