Favorite Books of 2011

The below books are my favorites that were released in 2011. If you have not read any of the below books, you should consider looking into them. Enjoy~

5. A Brush of Darkness - Allison Pang
4. Green-Eyed Demon - Jaye Wells
3. One Grave at a Time - Jeaniene Frost
2. A Discovery of Witches - Deborah Harkness
1. The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

Lover Unleashed

Book: Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9)
Author: J.R. Ward
Rating: 3/5

This book is revolved around Payne, the twin sister of Vishous. Vishous has a book of his own that is earlier in the series, but you are in luck if you like him. The plot is roughly half about him and told in his or Mary's point of view during that portion of the book. I had really high hopes for this book since most of the other books in the series have been great. Sadly, it did not meet my expectations.

In all honesty I was slightly disappointed with this book. Don't get me wrong it was decent, I went into the book expecting it to be about Payne mainly with a little bit about the other characters. This book is roughly half about her twin and half about her (if even). I felt there was more that could have been said about Payne than was mentioned. Don't even get me started about Dr. Manello, who happens to be the love interest. His speech is pretty much a combination of Butch and Vishous, which irritated me while reading. I just could not get into it and fall in love like I normally can. It was still a fairly decent read, but I will not be re-reading it

December 2011 Birchbox

I received my Birchbox yesterday, after a little bit of a wait on one of the items in my box.
1// Atelier Cologne // Ambre Nue
2// Benefit Cosmetics // The POREfessional
3// Jouer // Lip Gloss // Birchbox Pink
4// Nuxe // Multi-Usage Dry Oil
Extra// Show Stoppers // Designer Fashion Tape
Extra// EBoost // Orange Natural Energy Booster

Review:
1// Atelier Cologne: It smells really bad. I am not a fan of amber scents and it gives me instant migraines.
2// The POREfessional: Can't wait to try this.
3// Jouer Lip Gloss: Not sticky, and goes on fairly sheer. You can build up the color by applying multiple layers of it.
4// Nuxe Dry Oil: Smells okay, is not oily on the skin, it made my skin super soft. Love!
Extra// Show Stopper Tape: I don't plan on using this ever.
Extra// EBoost: I don't plan on using this ever.

Birchbox had a slightly mix up this month it seems. The Atelier Ambre Nue hasn't hit shelves yet so it caused a delay in the boxes that had that particular item. All in all I really like this box, I can give away the perfume and the extras as a little beauty gift to someone for Christmas.

GoGoGirlfriend is HORRIBLE

I just wanted to post and say that I broke up with GoGoGirlfriend.

The issue that I had with GoGoGirlfriend is they are late on shipping and explain it as "holiday" delays. My first box was in September and I had no issues. October's box was shipped late, and I would not have been informed of it at all. I had to email them to ask when my box would be shipping. November's box was a week and a half to two weeks late shipping. They blamed it on holiday delays.

I also joined a make up forum and quite a few others are having issues with GoGoGirlfriend as well. Some were even saying that when they emailed, customer service told them that they pay for a membership not a monthly box. I'm sorry but who the heck would pay $12.99 a month for membership to a website which is poorly constructed? Their website clearly says that you are paying for a membership but you will get a free box.

Do not let companies like this push you around! Stand up for yourself if you are having any of these issues.

Some great tips that were mentioned on the make up forum were to contact their Attorney State General (for their state), your Attorney State General (if it is different than the company's state), and to file a complaint on BBB.

Good luck!

Darkness Unbound

Book: Darkness Unbound
Author: Keri Arthur
Rating: 4/5

I was unsure that Arthur could surpass the greatness that is the Riley Jenson series, but she managed to with Risa's new series! The story starts out with explaining a little bit about Risa's abilities and quickly moves into the action. I did not want to put this book down, which is a problem since I am currently in final's mode in college. The characters most mentioned are Risa and her two friends, Tao and Iliana. Tao is a werewolf/fire wielder, Iliana a horse shifter/witch, and Risa is half werewolf, half Aedh.

It seems that everyone is searching for Risa's absent father, and they all start their hunt for him with Risa. There are hunky men as usual, fight scenes that have you rooting for the good guys, and strong friendships throughout the series. Did I mention there is a hunky shirtless guy carrying a flaming sword? *drools* Of course not all the little mysteries of this book were unraveled, which forces you to read the next book, which I will gladly do. This is a must read if you enjoyed Riley's series.

Also, for all you Riley fans, Riley and the gang do make appearances throughout the book, though they are not the lead characters.

Make Up Coupons - Target, Walgreens

I like coupons probably more than normal people. But who doesn't love a good deal?

Target:
Maybelline Baby Lips Lipbalm
This was cut down to $2.99 this week at Target.
If you check Target's coupon page there is a $2.00 off coupon for Maybelline Lip products.

This totals to you spending $0.99!

NYC New York Cosmetic
Target also has a coupon available for NYC New York Cosmetic item - $1.00
You might be able to snag these for FREE. Some Target's sell the nail polish or the lip stick for $0.94.

Walgreens

This week Walgreens has a Register Reward for Softlips. You will wind up paying $2.00, but once you pay you get a $2 coupon to use later!

Walgreens Register Rewards

So I recently discovered Walgreen's Register Rewards. This is a complex program, but totally worth it if you figure it all out. If you buy Item A as one transaction, then use the Register Reward (coupon) that printed off of it on another Item A, you will NOT get another coupon. I believe you can roll them though.
Buy Item A // Buy Item B + Use Item A Coupon // Buy Item A + Use Item B Coupon

I am not sure if it will print 2 coupons if you buy two of the same Register Rewards items in one transaction. Also, Register Rewards coupons EXPIRE, so look at the date before you stash it away to use later. You cannot use Register Rewards on everything, some things that are excluded are tobacco, and alcohol, there are more so look on the coupon for more details.

Below are the transactions that I have done / will be doing. They do not include tax, so add that into your scenario as you see fit.

Radiant & Rested: Volume II Universal Complexion & Color Collection

Here are some more beautiful Tarte products that I recently purchased. I love buying small sizes of products to test out how well I like each product.

What this set includes:
- 0.11 oz Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Glisten (golden peachy pink with gold shimmer)
- 0.19 oz Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder in Champagne (golden champagne sheen)
- 0.5 oz Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum
- 0.1 oz LipSurgence™ Natural Lip Luster in Sweet (golden pink)
- 0.02 oz The Bright Side Double-Ended Eye Brightener (day - shimmering champagne/ night - shimmering pink)

*The blush is wonderful and actually does not fade away super fast. I had it on for hours and it looked like I had just applied it. Very happy with this, and will more than likely be buying the full size when I run out.
*The shimmering powder is gorgeous on my skin. It gives you glowing skin that is to die for!
*Illuminating Serum has the consistency of a liquid foundation, and trust me a little bit goes a long way. This small size will last me awhile since I will just need a dot of the serum to suit my needs.
*LipSurgence: I love Tarte's lip line, it is amazing how well the colors go on and moisturize the lips. I have been converted and do not see myself purchasing another type of lip product in a long, long time.
*Double Ended Eye Brightener: There are two sides, one is a champagne color and the other is a pink color. Both look great on, and makes the person look more awake and aware. I applied it on the inner corner of my eyes, as well as under my lash line to make my eyes pop a little more.

Double Dexter

Book: Double Dexter
Author: Jeff Lindsay
Rating: 3/5

Amazon:
Dexter Morgan is not your average serial killer. He enjoys his day job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department . . . but he lives for his nighttime hobby of hunting other killers. Dexter is therefore not pleased to discover that someone is shadowing him, observing him, and copying his methods. Dexter is not one to tolerate displeasure . . . in fact, he has a knack for extricating himself from trouble in his own pleasurable way.

My Review:
If you have not read the Dexter series but you do watch the TV show be prepared for major differences. The TV series took parts of Book 1, and then did its own thing for most of season 1. Book two and after are completely different from the TV series. So if you are looking for more Dexter, try out the books at your local library or if you are a risk taker, go buy them!

Double Dexter was by far not my favorite in this series, but it is not the worst. It felt pretty average and Dexter was whiny and put down his nephew a lot.
The ending felt a bit rushed to me, I believe it is because most of the book is building up of how Dexter is reacting to having a copy cat/stalker. It is pretty much the same drill as always though, Dexter kills someone, there is drama in the office, and there is drama in the family. It felt like 95% of the book was suspense leading up to the resolution. The last 20-ish pages were how Dexter resolves everything. Some of the parts in the book made me want to smack Dexter. It felt like he was oblivious to something so obvious that a child could understand it. Don't even get me started on how much I wanted to smack Rita. She could not utter a single full sentence. I don't remember her being that bad in the other books. I'm not sure when she became such an airhead but hopefully she will not be in the next book.

Lip Service Limited-Edition LipSurgence Collection

I recently purchased Tarte's Lip Service Limited Edition LipSurgence Collection from Sephora. It is such a great deal, if you love Tarte products, this is a must buy.
The set includes 5 full size LipSurgence, two are lip tints, and three are lip lusters. The colors in this set are the following.
*Dazzled
*Flashy
*Glitzy
*Perky
*Swank

If you buy one of these full size products by itself it would cost you $24. The set is selling for $29, can we agree that this is a wonderful deal?

Each of these has a peppermint smell/taste to it, and of course you can put it on as lightly or dark as you wish. Don't let the glitter put you off on two of these lip products, it comes out wonderfully and doesn't make you look like you are in junior high. The color is supposed to last all day, but it generally lasts me a few hours before I need to reapply. A great benefit of using this product is that it actually moisturizes your lips. I have pale pink tone skin and all of the colors look great. I couldn't have asked for a better deal.

GoGoGirlfriend - October Box

This is my second GoGoGirlfriend box and I could not be more pleased. I love getting little sample boxes monthly, though GoGoGirlfriend goes above and beyond in how many products they put into their box. I will post a little review of the products as I go.

My full box
E.L.F. Eyelash Curler: I have bought this before because the pricing is super cheap ($1), and it works like any other eyelash curler I have tried.
E.L.F. Nail Polish - Cranberry: Gorgeous color, cannot wait to wear this in December. It really reminds me of Christmas.

Mango Beach - Glycerine Hand Therapy: Smells delicious, looks like a peachy pastel pink. Texture seems to be fairly thick, but does not leave hands feeling oily/greasy. Perfect for dry/cold months.
Oluv - Body Lotion: Texture is watery, looks like milk. Vegan product! Really basic lotion smell, I cannot place the scent but I have smelled it before. I can't say that it leaves the skin feeling moisturized for hours, but still a great size sample (2oz).
Modella - Make Up Bag: Super cute, vinyl type make up bag. Pure pink on the inside, ultra girly. Easy to clean, and I doesn't look super cheap. Love it!
Zhena's Gypsy Tea - Coconut Chai: I LOVE tea, I would drink it 24/7 if that was possible. On that note I HATE coconut, so I am super bummed that it was in that flavoring. I will be giving this away to a friend to try.
GoGoGirlfriend - Cherry Almond All Natural Soap: I received this sample last month and I am a huge fan of this soap. It smells f'ing wonderful. If GoGoGirlfriend ever quit making this, I would cry.

Blossoms - Eye Shadow - Enchanted: Loving this color, it is a warm gold, with slight sparkles. Do not confuse the sparkles with huge gaudy glitter, this is a very pretty color that would be good for anyone. Did I mention it is loose, and a mineral shadow?
Urban Decay - Loose Pigment - Protest: Not the best color (dark green), but still really pretty. Urban Decay has never steered me wrong with eye shadow and I doubt they will now. The only thing I dislike about this is all of the fallout. You will get the color and sparkles all under your eyes/tops of cheeks if you are not careful.

Details: You can choose to get a box every month ($12.99 a month) or get a box every other month ($13.98 every two months). Either way, you get a little box full of lovely items.

If you want to sign up, you can use my referral link or visit the website and sign up.

Enjoy~

Give Me Some Lip

I recently went to Sephora because I was dying to try out a little deluxe sample size kit they made of several lip products.

What is in the kit?

- 0.14 oz Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Fame (true color/ rosy plum sheen)
- 0.05 oz Tarte LipSurgence™ Natural Lip Tint in Moody (deep berry)
- 0.13 oz Benefit Benetint Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain
- 0.042 oz Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Celebutard (nude peach beige)
- 0.07 oz Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Leslie (original/ gilded pearl pink)
- 0.33 oz Lancome Juicy Tubes Jelly in Raspberry Ice (sheer pink coral with gold flecks)

Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Fame: Color is so pretty, it goes on smoothly and lasts awhile. It didn't feel sticky as hell like quite a few out there.

Tarte Lip Surgence Natural Lip Tiny in Moody: I thought this would be a super dark color and that I would not use it. I was totally wrong, this is by far my favorite product in the kit. You can put it on as dark or light as you want. It left my lips feeling shiny and smooth, and of course, gorgeous.

Benefit Benetint Rose-Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain: Gives you a color like you have been drinking fruit punch. It smells like roses, but not a nasty artificial rose. This is probably my #2 favorite of this box. The only thing I noticed was my lips want moisture right now since it is getting colder outside, and this doesn't really give them moisture.

Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Celebutard: Worst product that I have bought in a long time. Why Sephora would include a total creamy nude in a kit, I have no clue. I have doubts that this color would look good on anyone. That being said, what I do like about this lipstick is the consistency. It goes on silky smooth, which leads me to believe I would actually like her line, just in a different color.

Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish: Very pretty color for pale skin. It tingled like crazy when I put it on, so I am wondering if it is a plumper, or if that is normal. Not quite sure...

Lancome Juicy Tubes Jelly in Raspberry Ice: Super sticky, but you get a shine on it that looks like a glass coating. Really sheer color with glitter. This is pretty good to go over another color to lighten that color up. I doubt I would wear it by itself.

All in all I am in love with two of the products, and plan on purchasing the full size as soon as my sample size runs out. This is why I love getting little sample sizes of products, I can test them and see which works great with me.

Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish ~ Trafalgar Square

I stopped by Sephora this past Friday and immediately saw the magnetic nail polish. I went ahead and shelled out the high price of $16 for the silver polish aka Trafalgar Square.

The first time I tried it, I did not hold the magnet long enough over the nail and got a bad result. The result was getting a black splotch on the nail because it takes 10-15 seconds to fully form the design.
I also took too long to put the magnet up to the nail. This shit drys super fast (20-30 seconds) so good luck! I finally got the result that I was looking for when I tried again tonight.

HOW TO:
Paint a base coat
Paint one coat of the magnetic polish.
Let that dry.
Paint a generous coat of the magnetic polish and IMMEDIATELY place the magnet above the nail.
Paint a top coat.

I did notice that if I tilt the nail the silver areas move kind of like in holographic stuff.

Con: This stuff chips pretty easy. After wearing it two days it was chipped enough that I needed to redo it. It drying so fast makes you need to act fast or else you will have to redo it. Also placing the magnet directly above the nail lets you easily mess up by putting it too close and getting nail polish on the magnet.

All in all I like the effect when I actually get it correctly. I think it is kind of worth the money considering I love the silver color even without the magnetic effect.

October 2011 Birchbox

It is that time of the month again, Birchbox time! I will update this post as I use the items and let you know what I think of each. So check back and see my thoughts on the products.

 *Amika Obliphica Hair Treatment
Size: 0.34 fl oz
My Review: It smells really good and it doesn't make my hair oily. My hair looks shiny and healthy after using it.

*Anastasia Beverly Hills HydraFull Gloss
Size: 0.03 fl oz
My Review: Holy crap, this is a BEAUTIFUL shade. I got Bellini, and it is a orangy/peach color. It makes my lips look super moist and the shine is insane. This is love at first sight.

*Clark's Botanicals Intense Radiance Mask
Size: Unknown
My Review: Will update when I try it. Requires 25-30 minutes.

*The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo
Size: 0.5 fl oz
My Review: Not super thrilled about this. My skin is super sensitive and I might break out if I use it.

*Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer ~ Bronze

Size: 0.50 oz
My Review: Goes on sheer, so do not be frightened by the bronze color. Does not make a thick layer on the skin so you won't worry about your make up looking cakey. The fact that you can wear this alone (without makeup over it) impresses me. Cannot wait to try this with and without make up over it.

Sephora

I went to Sephora today and fell in love with two products. I have been on the hunt for a great mascara and found one today at Sephora. Not only does it have a super cute packaging and tube, it looks amazing on. The wand has 3 bumps, and it helps give extra curl. The color is black, but it is a glossy black. Do not freak out, but there are fibers in the mix, that is supposed to help lengthen your lashes. Try it before you buy it, it is sold at Sephora if you are in the USA.
Not only that, I found a great fragrance while in the line at Sephora. I by chance picked up a tiny little perfume bottle and smelled it. It smelled heavenly! I am talking about Tocca - Florence. 0.51 fl oz was $15, and well worth it, I cannot wait to use this on a regular basis. I cannot help but to keep smelling it.

Courting Darkness

Book: Courting Darkness
Author: Yasmine Galenorn
Rating: 5/5

I had the pleasure of winning an advanced reading copy of Courting Darkness. This is the 10th book in the series and I found it somewhat better than the rest. Don't get me wrong, I think the entire series is wonderful. This book just shows me that an author with an extended series can actually keep it interesting and not go downhill after the first few books, like some authors out there which I will not name.

This book is a must read if you have enjoyed the Otherworld series. It is an extremely fast read that you will not want to put down. Camille is facing Hyto, Smoky's father in this novel. I would not call this book easy going, it is rather dark. Some people will not enjoy this book because of the content. I found that darkness a necessary part of Camille's story, and I saw her character grow both emotionally as well as magically. You will get insight on the dragon culture, since it does revolve around Hyto being after Camille. I really can't say much more without giving away things, so I will just tell you now to go purchase this book when it comes out!

I would suggest reading Iris's story before reading Courting Darkness. Parts of Iris's story are mentioned a few times in this book, but it does not require reading it to fully understand.

Iris's story is located in the book Hexed, it is named Ice Shards, the book also includes 3 other novellas from other authors.

Courting Darkness is scheduled to be released November 1, 2011.

Bone Magic

Title: Bone Magic
Author: Yasmine Galenorn
Rating: 4/5

Goodreads synopsis:
"Another equinox is here, and life's getting more tumultuous for the D'Artigo sisters. Smoky, the dragon of Camille's dreams, must choose between his family and her. Plus, the sisters can't locate the new demon general in town. And Camille's summoned to Otherworld, thinking she'll reunite with her long-lost soul mate Trillian. But once there, she must undergo a drastic ritual that will forever change her and those she loves."

My Review:
Camille faces a lot of hard decisions and changes in this book. There are new opponents to be dealt with, and you wonder how the sisters and their entourage are going to handle everything. You get to meet up with a few of the characters from previous books, and of course meet new ones. Smoky has not been telling Camille the whole truth, and you wonder if he is going to remain by her side. Trillian is back in the picture and has faced hardships from the war. Will he accept that Camille married Smoky and Morio? While Camille visits Otherworld she has to choose if she will do something life changing. Not only is that a big plot point, the triple threat comes to Camille with a proposition that she is not sure if she should refuse. I could hardly put this book down, and this was a re-read from the past. Major kudos to Yasmine Galenorn for writing such a great series.

September 2011 Birchbox

I had an issue with my Birchbox subscription this month. It was the 13th and I had not received an email saying my box had shipped. I checked their website and it did not even show a September box. I contacted Birchbox via twitter and email and they ignored both. I contacted again the next day and got immediate help and they shipped my box out right then. Though yes, I was disappointed in their shipping this month I love the products they sent.

1. Truth Art Beauty | Face Nourish - Birchbox Blend
*DIY skincare: We mix and matched our favorite ingredients for this custom face oil, which nourishes with organic argan, pumpkin seed, and geranium oils.
*The smell is decent, it does not leave my skin oily which I was concerned about since it is an oil. It has been keeping my face moisturized and smooth and silky. So far I love this product and I am really happy I received it in my box.

2. Jouer | Lip Enhancer
*Why settle for plain 'ol lip balm when you can hydrate, plump, and condition all in one go? Right, we thought so.
*This is amazing. It leaves my lips hydrated, and so soft. I am going to buy the full size asap!

3. Jurlique | Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer
*A must for any urban adventure, Jurlique's sanitizer neutralizes bacteria with Australian mint and hydrates with safflower oil.
*It smells okay, it is a minty and herb smelling hand sanitizer. I really did not notice a hydration effect with this, so it basically is a herb-y/minty smelling hand sanitizer.

4. Incoco | Nail Polish Applique
*We all have a wild side. Eye-catching nail strips are the latest trend - try them on your fingers or toes.
*I am actually impressed with these nail strips. As long as you follow the directions they are very easy to apply and I had no issues. I have had these on for a week and have not noticed a single chip, it looks like I just put them on. See below picture for my nails.

5. Extra: Birchbox Friendship Bracelet.
*Little pink string bracelet with a silver BirchBox charm. It is cute, though I don't see myself wearing it daily.

One Grave at a Time

Title: One Grave at a Time
Author: Jeaniene Frost
My Rating: 4/5

Amazon Synopsis:
"Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans' voodoo queen just keeps on giving-leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit."

My Review:
Cat and Bones are back again for another intense adventure. This book takes place a few months after the last book. Cat still has the powers from the voodoo queen, you get to see how she handles so many ghosts being attracted to her. There is also the matter of taking care of a ghost that is a killer. How does one kill a being that isn't in the flesh?

Not only that but there is a new addition to Cat's old team. Don is still a ghost and hanging around. Sadly this installment in the series does not have Vlad, though it does have Spade, Denise, Ian, and even Cat's mother. The book sort of left me feeling incomplete, like the story was not fully wrapped up. Hopefully the next book will answer my questions.

Summer Knight

Title: Summer Knight
Author: Jim Butcher
My Rating: 4/5

Amazon Review:
"Private detective/wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is suckered into tangling in the affairs of Faerie, where the fate of the entire world-and his soul-are at stake."

My Review:
Harry Dresden, a wizard private investigator is in trouble yet again. Harry is worn out in this book and the white council is meeting to judge him about the war with the Red Court vampires. Harry's faerie debt to his godmother is traded to a fellow faerie. He agrees that the debt will be wiped clean after 3 favors. The first favor is that he must find who actually framed the Winter Faerie Queen.

How Harry manages to survive in these books I do not know, but each and every one of them are intriguing and I cannot get my fill of them. Harry shows his human side in this book, he has to make some decisions on if he should help his problems or help everyone. I have read books 1-4 so far, and this was by far my favorite. I cannot wait to read the next!

A Discovery of Witches

Book: A Discovery of Witches
Author: Deborah E. Harkness
My Rating: 5/5 Stars

Amazon synopsis:
"A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense. Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart, sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of historical realism."

My review:
A Discovery of Witches was by far the best book I have read in a long time. While yes, the size of the book itself is slightly intimidating, it was a pretty fast read that keeps your attention. I did not want to put this book down, because things just seemed to keep happening. You begin to really connect with each character and become engrossed in their world and stories. I will happily buy the second book and eagerly await its arrival.

Diana is a sweet main character that is pulling manuscripts for research. She unknowingly receives one that is spelled and manages to unlock the spell without really trying. No one has been able to call the manuscript out of hiding for hundreds of years. This makes her quite popular with non-humans, since they all want it for some reason and will stop at almost nothing to get it in their hands. Matthew, a vampire is quite an interesting character that has you hoping they will get together.

I believe this series could be the equivalent of the Twilight series, but for adults. Though it is better written, has a more interesting story line, and characters. If you begin to read it and are not too interested give it about 1/4th of the way through the book, that is about when I fell in love with it.

Shadow Kin Review

Book: Shadow Kin
Author: M. J. Scott
My Rating: 4/5

Amazon synopsis:
"On one side, the Night World, rules by the Blood Lords and the Beast Kind. On the other, the elusive Fae and the humans, protected by their steadfast mages...
Born a wraith, Lily is a shadow who slips between worlds. Brought up by a Blood Lord and raised to be his assassin, she is little more than a slave. But when Lily meets her match in target Simon DuCaine, the unlikely bond that develops between them threatens to disrupt an already stretched peace in a city on the verge of being torn apart.."

My review:
Lily, a wraith plays the role of assassin for a Blood Lord. She is sent to kill a sunmage and that is where everything changes in her life. There is a connection between Simon and Lily that cannot be denied and you find yourself hoping that they wind up together. Lily and Simon have a lot of character growth through out the book. You will be intrigued and not want to put the book down once you start reading it. The story has an alternating point of view between Lily and Simon. The way the author did this is perfect, you can easily tell what is going on and what each character is thinking without being lost. All in all, the book was an awesome read and I am really happy I was exposed to the talent that is M.J. Scott.

*Smells weird, but it is really awesome for your hair. It made mine super soft and smooth.

The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf Review

Book: The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf
Author: Molly Harper
My Rating: 4/5

http://www.amazon.com/Art-Seducing-Naked-Werewolf/dp/1439195870
Info from amazon:
"Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stone’s throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valley’s pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg. Maggie just can’t seem to convince Nick to leave . . . and even worse, she can’t convince herself to stay away from him. Cross-species dating is problem enough for a harried alpha female, but on top of that, a rival group of werewolves is trying to move into the valley. With interpack war threatening, Maggie can’t afford to be distracted. Combining romance and a career can be tough for anyone; for a werewolf in love with a human, it may be disastrous... "

This is the second book in the series, and it was a really great read. The main character is Maggie, who seemed like a huge bitch in the first book. I found that Maggie has a lot of character growth through out this book, especially if you compare it to book 1 (How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf). It has an interesting whodunit that will make you want to keep reading until you are finished. You do not have to read book 1 to read this book, though it might be helpful so you know who the characters are. Book one focuses on Maggie's brother and his love interest, while this book focuses on Maggie and her love interest.

I would not say this is a very different paranormal novel compared to others out there, though with Molly Harper's humor and mystery it will make the reading fast and keep your interest.

July Birchbox

I just received my second BirchBox. So far, I am in LOVE with this!!! See below for the picture of the items I received and their description.

1. Korres ~ Shower Gel (Japanese Rose)
  • Sample worth $2.44
  • This smells amazing, it has a very light rose scent. I have tried it out the last several days and it leaves my skin soft and smooth. My skin doesn't seem to be getting dry as much either.
2. Philosophy ~ Facial Cleanser (Purity)
  • Sample worth $2
  • Smells clean, and I've been wanting to try this product for awhile.
3. Pur Minerals ~ 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup (Light) W/ Pur Minerals Chisel Brush
  • Sample worth $13.93
  • Covered fairly well for a powder, I did not use foundation today and it seemed to cover and stay on for awhile. Did not last through my workout, but then again what does?
4. Redken ~ Shine Flash 02
  • Sample worth $8.11
  • Love hair products, so really happy I received this (I think almost everyone got this).
  • Tried it, and it's okay. I think it smells slightly of grapefruit and something else I can't place. It did add shine and made my hair pretty manageable. It took out all the flyaways and did not leave a greasy look.
5. Kind ~ Fruit & Nut bar (Almond & Apricot)
  • Worth $1.99
  • I just tried it and it was delicious, I don't even like apricots! YUMMM.
Products worth a total of $28.47!

All in all this is a really great box this month. I was wondering how they were going to try to top last months box since it had a full size product, but this one is pretty good. I am happy with all the products.

Check back later on this post and I will leave my input on the products as I use them.

Temptu

I am really impressed with the Temptu from Sephora. This innovation leaves a super awesome finish to your make up. You can choose to do the coverage as light or heavy as you need. When you use the Temptu, do not be surprised by how many complements you will get. People were asking my mom if she got a face lift done because it looks so flawless and tightens your skin. Even men were stopping and asking what was different!

If you use the machine daily the air pods will generally last about 6 months. So do not get put off by the price of the pods, it will last a long time. If you do not use it daily the pods will last even longer than 6 months. (Depending on how heavy you use it when applying)

This requires no knowledge to use this product. You point the wand a few inches from your face and pull down the lever, then spray in small circles. This allows sections of your face to dry partially or fully while you are working on another section on your face. The easiest way to test how heavy it will spray is to try it on a piece of paper or on your hand to see if the coverage suits your needs.

Go try out the Temptu at your local Sephora today!

Lush / Sephora Shopping

I went to Lush and Sephora today. This was my first time in Sephora and boy is it amazing. As soon as I stepped in I ran into the Temptu airbrushing system and had to try it. They found out which colors would work on me and put it on. It feels great, like I am not wearing make up at all and it was super fast to put on. Did I mention that it is not melting in this 100+ degree weather in Texas? Overall very happy with how it works.

Sephora:

NARS - The Multiple - Orgasm

This is a great deal for something that is so versitle. You can use it on your eyes, lips, and cheeks. I have pale skin so when it is blended it leaves a soft shimmery look and doesn't leave my skin sticky or cakey. This is my first NARS product, and it looks like it will not be my last. Talk about love at first sight.

Lush:

I ran into a problem with one of my Lush items and had to return one of them. My Vanishing Cream went bad all of a sudden before its expiration date (October 31, 2011). They replaced it with a brand NEW pot of it for free and took the bad one away. Such great customer service. They hooked me up with a free bath bomb for my trouble and gave me a little sample of Bubble Gum lip scrub. It is a sugar scrub that you rub onto your lips and it will exfoliate them really well and leave them soft and smooth. Once you are satisfied with that you lick the scrub off since it is sugar.

Bath Bomb that smells AMAZING!
